  • If you want to class today as a NSD I think you're perfectly entitled to as it hasn't come out of your budget, you were spending "extra" money so to speak! Personally I count a NSD when I literally don't spend anything (not including direct debits) - I have a bit of cash in my purse that isn't part of my budget but the days I've dipped into that I've still classed as spendy days. It's personal choice I think :)

:j hurrah on the full house of underspends! What are you going to do with the money left over from these? Roll them over to next month or use it to pay off a bit of debt?

Ooh, only £100 in the luxury category this month! Good luck hun! :)
  • That's what I thought. I don't think I'll put it down as a NSD more of a "well that was fortunate!" day.

I don't have any change in my purse at all - it all goes into several pots around the house which all have specific jobs. I say several, there's 3! One for coppers which when I get to a pound I change up and put into one of the others. The other 2 are "holiday" and "summer". We've been trying to save up to go away for a few years now and the balance is getting quite tasty. I know I should put this money towards paying off my debts but the holiday is to see family and one of them is getting on a bit so I want her to get to meet my daughter before it's too late, if ya get me!

The summer pot is purely because last year I had no money for the summer holidays so over the last year I've been putting anything under 50p piece into there and we'll see what we've got come July.

The underspends in January totalled up to £26.02 and I'm going to throw this at CC2. I'm being very ambitious on the £100 for the other/luxury budget and don't think I'll manage it but it's worth a shot. The next birthday I need to spend out on is in April and I don't spend much on that one anyway, only about £20, so it should be ok. We'll see!

  • Morning all, hope you've had a good weekend.

I had a great one with my little girl & family and an up & down one financially.

Totally forgot a birthday so had to pop into the city to buy a present & card. Found what I wanted reduced by a fiver - bonus! Went to pay and it had a further £3 off it. Talk about result!

I then went to the cheaper card shop & bought a big roll of wrapping paper (shiny plain so can work for male or female) & a card for £1.48.

Took my mum & daughter to Virgin Lounge. Have to say it's very lovely but a bit quiet. We all had a drink (daughter had 2!) as well as some biscuits and an apple. We had similar at Cafe Nero just before Christmas and that cost us just over £12 so that's a nice saving.

Got home & got invited in for dinner at parents, as well as for Sunday roast the next day. This obviously involved drinks, electricity & heating etc.

So all in all, spent £27 (including some vests for daughter that were badly needed, parking & a few bits such as milk & papers). Saved £12 on coffee out. Got 2 free meals so 2 extra meals already bought this week.

How have you all got on? :)

  • Morning all!

This morning I was able to update my signature as I made some payments yesterday - so exciting!! Putting everything down in this way with the cleared as well as the reduced balances is making this so much more easier to control as well as keeping me motivated.

I've also added the walk to school money which is now at a whole 90p as walked today. This goes into the pot with the loose change on I/B so when it gets to a fiver it can go straight across to Christmas savings. I'm really annoyed that I haven't put anything in there yet this month then have to remind myself that it's only the 4th and I still haven't been paid yet :(

Hope everyone is doing well, it seems to have gone a bit quiet on here lately, well, the threads I'm following, so I hope everyone is still motivated and going strong.

    Have a good day!!

Keep going and keep sparkling Sassy. I am feeling the same way about all the little things in my signature, I want them to all move in the right direction.

I am surprised I am still around, I do not normally manage to keep up new year resolutions beyond the interminably long month of January, hopefully all the other January survivors will come out of hiding soon x.

  • Hi Rainbow!

Glad you are still around. I'm exactly the same with new year's resolutions. Used to make one every year and think I've only kept 2 - no sugar in tea & take multi-vits. First one I was 17 second one was last year! lol

I think the reason I'm sticking to this is because eventually it will not only serve me better but also my daughter. Also, seeing the figures going down on here is immensely rewarding, even if it is only a few pounds at a time.

Also, what does AFD means in your signature? I used to run pubs so AFD to me probably doesn't mean what it does here!! x

  • Hi Sassy,

AFD means what you think it does. I want to keep control of my drinking, this year, along with my spending and eating. None of these has ever been particularly excessive, but I slip into bad habits and eat, drink and spend unnecessarily, all of which do not add to my quality of life.

In 2014 I want to make my pennies count and ensure that I really care for my body.

Thanks for your comment on my diary, it is nice to have company on this journey x.
