Confused a little here - I have 21 funds (£80k) invested in a Vantage Stocks and Shares ISA. As I understand it, do I have to sell 9 of them and leave them in cash in the ISA before filling in III's transfer form - I read that it's a maximum of 12 funds that can be transferred from HL. Is that the best way for me to do it, I mean transfer both cash & the 12 funds from HL to III - presumably then I can buy the new funds from the cash once with III? Many thanks
Bear in mind that if you convert to cash then transfer to II, it could be several weeks before you can reinvest. In that time, the market might have moved considerably. It could easily rise or fall by 5% or even more. If it rises, you will have lost the increase in value that you would have made if you had stayed in the fund. With a portfolio your size, that could cost you £4000! Of course, you could gain if prices fall, but do you want to take the risk?

Also, check if any of your funds have dilution levies or initial charges.

Does transferring 'in specie' avoid initial charges ?
I noticed a couple I hold are listed as having a 3.85-4% initial charge at II which if 'in specie' avoids this I might as well top up at HL before transfer ?

OK I am thinking of moving from HL to III for my ISA. III have most but not all of my funds in HL. What happens if I do the transfer and if I leave my portfolio account in tact to the funds that III don't actually hold. Will they sell my funds and transfer it in cash.

So if I hold 10 funds and III only have 8 what happens to the other two.

If you can't find the funds on III's website do ring them up and ask, by doing this I found they had all but a couple of my 56 holdings. If there are any funds they don't trade (such as HL's own multimanager funds) you could just leave those with HL if you wished.

Can someone who's already with III check if GB00B59H6H54 (Vanguard FTSE UK Equity Index Inc) can be purchased on their platform.

It does not show up when I so a search for Vanguard on their site, but Google shows it's listed on the III web site.

    Thanks

Yes, you'll avoid paying any initial charges as you won't be making a purchase through II. It is worth topping up before transferring anyway as you'll avoid trading charges while the funds are still with HL.

There are several funds like this, where the factsheet is there, but it isn't listed as an available fund. It looks as though you can't purchase it through the website. I seem to recall HL had a set of funds you could only invest in via phone, so perhaps this is a similar situation.

Its definitely worth asking them as it could easily be that its just been omitted from their database. Some time ago I had a similar problem, rang them, and the missing fund quickly appeared.
  • I noticed the Vanguard Emerging Markets Stock Index Acc and Vanguard Global Small-Cap Index Acc are both not allowed in an ISA according to iii.

But I have them in my ISA at HL.

Does that mean I can't transfer in specie?

I can buy them from my iii ISA, well at least get as far as it saying I couldnt buy one because I didnt have sufficient money in the account.

If you looked at their fund list did you click on the correct Vanguard? Some funds are Vanguard Investments UK others such as your two are Vanguard Investment Series.
