I've no idea why you would even consider leaving a job with the job market being as bad as it is....Spk up and start making notes, befriend the pharmacist and start working as a team with her. If you are unsure about anything and it can be left wait until the other person comes in and ask her, to be honest with you being such a small team it sounds like it could be lovely job.
  • Thanks for all your replies, I would really like to stay, but if I'm not offered some more guidance then I don't see it will be possible. I think I have learnt a lot in the few days I have been there, but there is just a couple of procedures I am unsure of, if I I'm working alone next time I go in I wont know how to complete them.

Ask if the manager can leave a phone number incase you have any questions.

    Well there are two options:

    1) As a Takeaway_addict said just go with it be prepared to make mistakes and learn on the job. It's not your fault you haven't received training.
    2) Quit and find another job

I'd go with the first one. It's not your fault, so you shouldn't be made to feel guilty about it.

    Not a nice situation.
I've actually had quite a few jobs where I felt very undertrained and was expected to pick everything up instantly.
Am never sure whether it's me just being a thick person in general, whether it's because my anxiety makes it impossible for me to absorb information when the pressure is on in a new job, or whether it is actually just down to rushed training and expecting too much from people.

I'd just say do your best for now.
You're making money whilst you're there....

I really would ask for help, but I think the pharmacist is too stressed with her own job to give me any guidance. She spends half her time out the back crying and the other half saying how crap her job is. Yesterday somebody came in for their controlled drug, I had no idea where it was kept, or what the procedure was for giving it to the customer; so I waited a minute until the pharmacist was free and she went bonkers at me, telling me it won't work if I ask her questions!? I have been told I have to do the banking on Friday without any help, the way they do it just seems to be so complicated, maybe its just me and I'm silly but think this is going to be another problem. In fact its not really the banking I'm bothered about because that's not detrimental to anyone's health.

You shouldn't be dispensing controlled drugs without proper training. And all prescriptions, not just controlled drugs should be checked by a second person before being given to the patient. Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen there.

Yes you were right tortoise, it was a disaster waiting to happen. Yesterday I gave the wrong meds out, I had not been given any guidance on the different procedures for medication and prescriptions. Fortunately, the man noticed, I dread to think what could of happened if he hadn't. I had been continuously shouted at, threatened and so decided to stand up for myself, by which she decided I obviously couldn't cope and told me I needn't bother coming back.

So sorry to hear that. I've worked in pharmacy for years and it can be very tough. I think they were expecting far too much of you. Good luck in finding something else.
