Royal Bank of Scotland do not have a cashback credit card afaik?
Here's a link for the freedom rewards in case anyone is as stupid as me and can't find it:

I would prefer the santander 123 credit card, but this is a somewhat worthy substitute as I can redeem some points at places I would normally spend at anyway, so that's some consolation.
TBH building up a credit history can take years and even then you're not guaranteed a card, so it's not impossible getting one with very little credit history but building one up with a credit builder card will give you a much better chance."You know when it's cold outside when you go outside and it's cold"0 -
Hmm, well I have to start somewhere, so the freedom rewards card is a good a place to start as any. Only thing I am worried about applying so soon after my rejection - is there a advised "cooling off" period between applications to ensure my credit score is negatively affected?0

If you do it quickly your credit reports probably won't show the search for the Santander card. You can see all credit searches on your reports. If Santander isn't showing, then lenders won't know you've applied for credit with Santander.
If you're rejected for that though, I wouldn't apply for anything else for a while. What will your verse be?

Another option is a store card if you can pay it off in full each month. They are apparently easier to get than other credit cards and are often the way youngsters build up a credit history.Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0

you could appeal to santander if you can show wage slips, a copy of your credit report showing no "bad" entries and maybe a utility bill or two but it may well be in vain. Try capital one, although from experience they won't touch you if you're not on the electoral roll.
