Of course, but then she would have one of two options:
1) Admit that the criticisms are valid and that MSE have published an ill thought out screed which encourages bank staff to break the law, if they have time in between being harrassed to refund charges by angry punters;
or
2) Defend the article and insist it's all correct in the face of all evidence and general common sense.

As mentioned, I feel sorry for all front line Santander staff now.
She sounds extremely sour. Did they dismiss her?0 -
This type of article is one of the reasons I don't spend as much time on the financial areas of the board these days, and spend more time talking about baking and other home management matters.
It's better for my blood pressure that way.Early retired - 18th December 2014

I agree with all that o4u and JJ have said on this thread.
I certainly don't want random people paying money into my account(s) with any bank. If someone wants to give me money, they can either give me cash or a cheque, or I will give them one of my account numbers at a bank of my choosing and they can send me an FP.
Unless of course I have authorised them to operate my accounts on my behalf.0 -
"Some cashiers have a limit of £50, but they can call over a manager to refund more. If they try to fob you off with a phone line, stand firm and politely ask them to refund the charge themselves. But remember they can only do any one month of charges, so I’d suggest picking the most expensive month."
Hate to be the bearer of bad news OP, i look at refunding charges on accounts too. I make the decision how much to refund, there's no "picking the most expensive month" :eek: I don't work for Santander but do not believe that a refund would be agreed on the customers say so !!
Simply refunding charges isn't going to help a customer, there needs to be an indepth check as to what causes the charges, not just a blanket refund.
I don't believe this person is what they say they are (or were) MSE should remove this post and have a closer look at their source.0 -
MSE, you seem to make it sound normal that people have monthly bank charges. Why are you not taking the opportunity to remind people how they can, and why they should, tackle the root cause of such charges? There are a lot of relevant resources on the MSE site - why have none of these been mentioned in the article?the_MSE_blog wrote:But remember they can only do any one month of charges, so I’d suggest picking the most expensive month.
Again, some of these queues can be avoided by using internet banking, or the deposit and withdrawal machines, or even the phone. MSE, why don't you encourage people to use these alternatives?the_MSE_blog wrote:Often, the most annoying thing about visiting a branch is the long queue.
As an ex Deputy Branch Manager, the author should have known that if she has the account number and sort code of the recipient, she could have just deposited the cheque in a machine. No, or very little, waiting involved.
I am afraid, the blog almost entirely fails to tell the MSE reader how to get the best (as opposed to "what you want") from their bank, or - better still - from a plural of their banks and Building Societies. All in all, quite a poor show from MSE, I am afraid.the_MSE_blog wrote:How to get what you want from your bank0 -
Even if everything she states was 100% correct at the moment she left her employment with Santander how does she know it still is?0
