Unsold pub at auction

in House buying, renting & selling
Hi there users,

Long story short: I was checking out unsold properties through an auction website. Found a pub, affordable, so I thought i'd give the auctioneers a ring. Everythings fine, however, they won't allow me access to the inside of the pub...being put on auction by a bank.

Any thoughts? Any feedback/opinions would be highly appreciated.

    pubs are total money pits. you will regret it.

    This can't be normal? Are you paying cash? If you literally said look I'll offer you XXX as long as I can see it first just to check the place over?

    Rings massive alarm bells.

    I am paying cash, fairly cheap price to be honest.

    I have no idea why they won't allow me....bit of a lottery here.

    Who said you would get planning permission for change of use etc

    Good question.

    I've looked at the council website. A pub on the same street was given permission.

    I guess I'd think to myself whats the worse that could be wrong...I mean your converting it to flats so massive renovation anyway I would imagine (not my street so I wouldn't know)

    So say the roof had caved in...Say it was covered im damp...Say its got mouse infestation...

    Is it that cheap that any big problem you can think of will still allow you to walk away with a profit?

    I'd look at it that way.

    Chances are that if PP was available the place would not be cheap. (Depending on where it is)
