Mobile cover/reception not as stated.

Got a new phone from Car Phone Warehouse on Orange yesterday.
It was activated today and I have no mobile or mobile internet reception.
I was told I would have 3g reception but not 4g and that my reception would be better than my last provider which it is not.
We're do I stand on rejecting this contract?

EE are constantly decommissioning transmitters, resulting in new coverage blackspots. I've just left Orange after 15 years because of this.

If EE and/or the Carphone Warehouse are promising coverage where in fact there is no coverage, then it is a breach of Regulation 5(5)(a) of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.
  • To say that mobile phone salespeople are economical with the truth is an understatement.
The best way (when your present problem is sorted) is to ask others living nearby what networks they are using and if the signal is good, and then go for the best deal on that network.
You can check this yourself by using your phone to do a network search (look in phone settings for the tab) and then see what networks appear on the phone's display.

Good advice, and I asked neighbours on O2 before switching from Orange to Giffgaff (O2), but it's not the best way. You really need to get a prepaid SIM card from your chosen network (even with zero credit) and then test the signal by receiving calls on the SIM card in an old phone.

It's not clear whether you can cancel altogether, or whether they expect you to sign up to an alternative provider - but either way, you should be OK to go back into the store and let them know about the lack of signal. Just take the relevent proof of address etc. (which I assume you had to show yesterday when you took the new contract anyway)
