Another which I've used is CrossLoop. Just ignore all the stuff about creating accounts and finding experts and go for the Screen Sharing free option.

The person whose screen you're controlling also has to install this software, and when you both start it up the far-end person has to tell you their magic 12-digit code which you have to enter, to get to control their PC.

    Thanks Ill look into it.

It's a total pain, especially the lack of a cheap subscription to support family members, excellent article posted yesterday and alternatives here:

Crazy business model. I don't mind paying a few quid for each single pc account, but $49. Silly stuff. Whoever came up with this pricing scheme deserves a good kicking.

And they've added all sorts of bells and whistles nobody wants over the past couple of years.

Designed for business most likely. They bung in free personal use in the hope that when somebody needs it for work somewhere they'll persuade their company to use it.

I've had a look at Teamviewer now - not as good as logmein imo but better than the VNC versions I've seen years back.

I too have shipped over to Teamviewer. Not quite as portable as logmein, as you have to install the Teamviewer software on any computer you want to use to access the remote computer, but it seems quicker than logmein.

There was a certain irony in using logmein to install the teamviewer software remotely.

Anyway logmein is gone off all computers and won't be back.
