and bath has previously been trimmed to fit we think
we dont want to go down to a 1600mm , can i assume/hope that a 1700 is either slightly under or my fitter will be able to trim 3cm off ?

Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

I think i would have measured before going out to buy it.
Still now the damage is done i think you may get away if you channeled the wall. It's only the very top of the bath that's going to be long so chisel away a channel of plaster at each side.
I don't think i'd try and trim the bath.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

I had a similar issue and agree with SS. Just set the bath into the wall at either end. As the slack to be taken up wasn't much in my case and I tiled over and sealed to the bath, it worked for me. The measurements may not be exact and with some 'persuasion' you might be lucky. Hopefully it doesn't have plastic grab handles. I have a nice white bath (still after 8 yrs) but the white handles aren't and look 'mucky' really annoying.
good luck0 -
Sorry for confusion , i havent bought the bath yet , i am referring to the previous oweners installed bath being trimmed to fit.....
I will have to call my fitter and ask , before i purchase one
thanks chapsNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
Could you go for a 1675mm bath? We had the same problem but managed to source a 1675mm on Ebay.0

You can buy baths that are 1670 long. Quite a few 1700 baths are 1685 (I know from experience), but most detailed catalogues have the exact (and they mean exact - to the mm) measurements in a plan view.
You can channel the bath in if necessary, but it probably isn't necessary, particularly if you go to a plumbing merchant... in fact, I've just asked the great god of the interweb: here is one of many that turn up...0 -
Out of stock till march! , to be honest we were looking at suites and i didnt see many with 1675 length , and the bath must have an encapsulated base board as i think thats best for rigidity , if i have to buy acrylic?
I will pop down the merchants on the weekend i thinkNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
To make my bath fit, I chiselled the plaster off the wall, and they had to chisel a bit of brick work (angle grinder to create cuts in brick, chisel out brick)0

Our bath wasn't part of a suite admittedly, but it looks fine with the basin and loo we bought separately. If you shop wisely you could match it up fairly easily. As the bath we bought was a shower bath, we needed to to be as rigid as possible, so we found a 10mm thick reinforced acrylic bath that was 1675mm similar to this one:

Hope that helps.0 -
trim 30mm off the bath :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
dan that did make me smileI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
another vote for channelling into the wall.
It is one of the joys of fitting metric baths into imperial spaces found in old houses - been there, done that, got the (now dusty) T shirt, wasn't too bad to do0
