How do you tell a sellers dispatch time by their stars

I bought a item last Tuesdays and it was marked as dispatched the next day but I still haven't received it. So I've looked at the sellers feedback and a lot of people are saying fast dispatch but if you look at the stars for dispatch it shows 4.8 with 546 ratings out of 600 sales.

Along with dispatch time you need to look at the method of post used. It may well have been dispatched on Wednesday, but delivery will depend on a lot of things. But most of all the DSR star for dispatch is for exactly that, dispatch.
If the parcel is postmarked when you eventually receive it, you will be able to make a decision if you are unsure how to mark them.0 -

No way - I include delivery when I rate (taking method and 'expected delivery' into account).
Every seller would have 5.0 out of 5.0 for 'Despatch' just by marking as despatched as soon as an order came in. It's only a click of the mouse with no possible verification.0 -

Well, that is not strictly true. There are lots of methods including services offered by Royal Mail which have FULL tracking.
So verification is quite possible to those who are aware.
DSR for dispatch is for dispatch. It isn't for delivery. You only have to peruse the threads on here to see that NOT all sellers mark as dispatched as soon as the order comes in.0 -

I definitely do accept that not all sellers mark despatched asap ( I'd happily accept if you claimed most don't) but the point is that you can't tell.
My guess would be that more sales than not go standard royal mail untracked ( just because most sales are relatively low value that tracking would be disproportionate to the item cost).
Despatch can be manipulated ; delivery is a fact.0 -

Your guess is just that, a guess.
So let me guess that most mail goes standard post, this will have a postmark, so yes you can tell.
Let me guess the next amount go via low cost courier giving tracking info, so yes you can tell.
Delivery is a fact, yes, a fact of delivery time. Not dispatch time.

So if an item is held up in the postal system you mark the seller down for circumstances beyond their control?
I post items the day after payment is received without fail. Sometimes items take 10 days to get there, nothing I can do about it.0 -

Sometimes you can tell by simply looking at the parcel; the date is there.Despatch can be manipulated ; delivery is a fact.
I sent an item the same day within a couple of hours of payment, but it was delivered after five working days. I sent it recorded which made it very easy to ascertain that it was in fact sent same day, but I have no control over delivery. You might want to take that into consideration.0 -

Obviously, where evidence of prompt despatch exists it would be wrong to blame the seller - I had thought that went without saying.
Where there is no evidence and yet late delivery occurred there are 2 likely culprits ; seller or royal Mail/courier.
Seeing as RM hit their delivery time target of 93/98% (1st/2nd class) I know which I would consider most likely to be at fault.0 -
