Would like to thank everyone who has tried to help with this problem, as it now seems to be resolved.
Turning off system restore and then re-running MBAM seems to have worked. Am now going to turn SR on again and create a new restore point, so hopefully everything will work in the future.
Thank you all for the help, advice, suggestions and guidance through this, it is very much appreciated, before the laptop ended up on the local Autostrada!!!
Now I just need to sort out why the factory restore is taking up so much space as in a earlier post!!As Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0
