What is it that makes Ralph Lauren more "current"?
Seems like you wear clothing, which while very classy (Hugo is very nice), is even more expensive than Tommy or RL. Especially with Hugo and Armani.

I find Armani to be almost "sprayed on" at times. Boss is similar, but a very nice fit. Fred is very nice too - in fact I find Fred's materials very similar to RLs. Henri's material is more similar to Tommy.

Why do you wear, for example, Fred over Tommy/RL? Apart from personal choice.

my day to day clothing will be something cheaper, like Primark jeans or chinos with Affliction t-shirts, I'd never wear armani sitting around the house or at work......It's my going out clothes and if see a good deal on either Hugo or Armani I'll buy it.

I've never been a fan of Tommy, it's the badge, it's too American if that makes sense....brash in your face style, I prefer more understated stuff, I'd say RL is classier.

I'd say Ralph Lauren is more current because they've updated their style recently, the much larger horse instead of the small one, personally I prefered the smaller one, I don't see may people wearing Tommy.

Fred Perry and Henri Lloyd are similar to Ralph Lauren and Tommy respectively but with Fred Perry and Henri Lloyd being British I would chose the former.

    Penguin aren't a brand I'm aware of.....

Another way to look at it , if neither came with an identifying badge would you still wear it , or if instead the badge said Primark would you wear it ?

    I've heard that argument before.
The answer is - you probably wouldn't - but - you know the quality of the materials is far better, stitching is far better, colours will stay true for much longer.

I've known of people with Tommy polos, who 10 years down the line, still look like new. A polo from the cheaper alternatives, will look old by then.

If you bought the cheapest of cars, and put "Rolls Royce" on the back, or "Audi" on the back, would you buy it? Probably not, because you could feel the lack lustre quality of plastics, materials, and the feel of it would be poorer than the other makers.

To LOOK at only, you can often seen something is far better quality. I know someone that use to work for M&S and showed her a Fred Perry top, and she could instantly see it was better quality than the other brand I showed. She said "It's obvious".

I also agree with another comment here about the "Big Pony". That's just brash. It's like GAP sweaters - never!!

I'm a fan of GAP jeans, but not GAP polos as they feel cheaper to me too. There is no life in them, in my opinion.

    Thanks.

    Why?

I find ralph lauren better quality clothes, always wash well and hold their shape and colour

Which pretty much is what I said to the previous contributor, as to why you'd choose it, even if there was no label on it.

If you know who it is when buying, then from experience....!

I've never owned a Tommy polo. Tho I do have a red sweater.
A bright red Tommy polo is on sale for £30. Would that hold it's shape and color as well as RL (which is no longer on sale)?

Been looking at two tops at Hugo Boss - one is Ferrara and one is Firenze. I'm told the Firenze is a slimmer fit around the torso, yet they are both the same measurements!

How is a slimmer fit, the same measurement as the other one?

Are the measurements not "to fit" rather than actual size?

So they are both in Large for 40.2", but one is closer to the body than the other? they told me that about the slim fit, but I generally thought Hugo Boss was fairly close slim fit anyway, so wondering whether I shoudl get the less-slim one. So it's a good fit, but not "sprayed on".
