Which is better: Tommy or RL?

Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren both have sales on.
Tommy has a lovely red polo shirt, while RL has a few similar ones, but I have a code they gave me (after their site crashed a few days ago), that gets me the similar top for about the same price.
But a view please for fans of both or either: which is the better quality in the more basic lines... RL or Tommy??
Some will say you are paying for the logo...etc...etc... but this is not a question about that.

I would say both are good, I went shopping and bought more Tommy but only due to the price. I think Ralph is more prestigious than Tommy especially with the comments Tommy made0

Quality both are as good as each other0

Tommy and Ralph Lauren are unfashionable and the quality is similar to many other cheaper brands, in fact, they might even be made in the very same Sri-Lanka or Philippine factories that Primark and Asda make their clothes...
You're paying a premium for a label that isn't even a premium label nowadays.......20 years ago, yes........not today however...We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Quality wise, comparing with Primark or Asda material the RL tops I have got are far superior, and wash much better.
They possibly are made in the same place, but with better materials, better buttons, better stitching etc.
So in your opinion who "is" fashionable? If two of the biggest brands in fashion are not fashionable?0 -
to answer the question you actually asked, i'd say they're both good but personally I'd go for ralph lauren0

They were fashionable in the past and no doubt will be in the future, however, at the moment they aren't....I'd agree with Gettin, I'd go for Ralph Lauren over Tommy just because Ralph Lauren is more current...
Designers I wear are Hugo Boss, Armani, Fred Perry and Henri Lloyd.......We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Seems like you wear clothing, which while very classy (Hugo is very nice), is even more expensive than Tommy or RL. Especially with Hugo and Armani.
I find Armani to be almost "sprayed on" at times. Boss is similar, but a very nice fit. Fred is very nice too - in fact I find Fred's materials very similar to RLs. Henri's material is more similar to Tommy.
Why do you wear, for example, Fred over Tommy/RL? Apart from personal choice.0 -
BTW - how do you rate "Penguin" clothing? I find it a very good fit, not that is relates to my question.0
