Virgin deal advice needed please
Hi i am with virgin, apparently my 24 month contract expired last month(i thought i was on 30 day rolling but never mind)
I have been with them for 8-9 years on mobile and nearly 20 years for phone, broadband, tv.
my current deal was: 600 mins, 1gb data, unlimited text and virgin to virgin for £10.50 a month.
Now they are offering me: Sony experia L + 1200 mins 500mb data, unlimted txt and virgin to virgin for £13 a month.
I do need a new phone but i dont like the idea of reducing my data to 500 mb. My current data usage is 300-400 mb a month BUT only because my current phone (htc wildfire s) doesnt have enough memory for more apps. Im sure if i get a better phone i will add more apps and then use more data?
Is the Sony experia L a good phone? (i deff want to stay on Andriod) but is this phone worth it? (its basically costing me £110 EXTRA over a 24 month contract)
The 2nd offer is:
1200 mins, unlimited data (up to 3.5 gb and then they just slow my speed down). unlimited text, unlimited virgin to virgin for £10 a month. Sim only deal.....no phone. But no contract, 30 day rolling.
It seems like a great deal, but i do need a new phone as well.
I'm not sure what to do, the guy was saying take the £10 deal and then buy a phone for £100-£150 but will i get anything good for that?
They always seem to mess up my mobile phone bills and it is a constant pain ever few months to see they have over charged me and to get it put back +bank charged, this has gone on for a couple of years now.
Ideally i just want to stay on my £10.50 a month contract and get them to give me a new phone for the poor service and because of my many years of loyalty..........do you think i have a chance?
Its tough to know what to do because i don't know very much about phones these days....so any advice would be welcome.
I deff dont want iphone or blackberry.
Any advice please?
Thanks

Not necessarily. This depends on the apps as many (most?) consume very small amount of data and only when they are running. My current data usage is 300-400 mb a month BUT only because my current phone (htc wildfire s) doesnt have enough memory for more apps. Re updates, it's easy to set them via wi-fi only.
The lowest price I see £120 on Voda PAYG, but for about the same price you can get a popular Moto G that is better in many aspects (although it doesn't have a card slot and has a worse camera:Is the Sony experia L a good phone? 500mb won't be enough and the sony L isn't that high spec anyhow
I would be tempted by the rolling 30 day contract with lot of data
Have a look at the Moto g phone this gets good review and is available @ £100 plus
Is there a trial period on the contract? Normally you can upgrade at later date without penalty. How much is the next tariff up with more data on contract?
Also check out the cost of extra mb's if you go over the 500mb as tmoble charge £6/mb0 -

No trial period becuase its just a 30 day rolling. Virgin dont offer upgrades on these sim only deals.
If i got over the mb data allowance they say its a £1 per day charge. Although a friend told me they also charge you tax on top of this.
Will call virgin again today to find out what the next tarrif above is.
But after spending some time in shops nobody can even get close to the 1200 mins, unlimited data, txt and virgin to virgin for £10 a month deal. might just have to go for that and buy a phone...0 -
alternatively I have just got the Huawei Y300 which is a brilliant budget android phone (CPW have it for approx. £60 on payg) it is unlocked so go for the £10 rolling contract and buy yourself a new phone?0

I think this might be my best option to be honest. If i want a latest phone i have to got from a £10 a month contract up to a £30-£35 a month contract...i deff dont want to do that!0 -

That £10 a month sounds like a great deal but I know where you're coming from with Virgin. I am (stupidly) still on 10.50 a month for 300 mins and 300 texts. Admittedly I used to go over the £10 but around August last year my bills became horrendous each month (too embarrassed to say what they were) but I really couldn't understand why. Their itemised bills take a while to go through and understand - I guess they put their prices up at some point but I wouldn't have thought they would have made that much difference. Anyway my plan is to get away from Virgin - unless I can get a deal like the one you have been offered!
I bought a second hand iphone and took Vodafone sim only - I've found I've got much better coverage - (I worked in a place where I had 3 phones - Virgin; Orange and GiffGaff but had really poor reception with all of them. The only one that's been consistent has been Vodafone. Anyway, I'm rambling now but good luck - I hope you get the phone from Virgin0 -
Thanks for the help guys
In the end i just went for the sim only deal. 1200 mins, unlimted data, txt virgin to virgin for £10 a month. I think thats a great deal and nobody else could even come close to that.
Im now thinking of getting the motorola moto g as has been suggested here. Might wait abit to see if the 16gb version comes down in price, its currently £130 at tesco0 -
FWIW if you want to save another £3 pm they will offer that for £7pm
(if you feel the urge for a haggle!)0 -
Imo the Moto G is very much worth the extra money over the Huawei Y300. You are effectively getting a decent spec mid range phone for a budget money. And with a decent data package the 8GB should suffice as it comes with 65Gb of free Google cloud storage for 2 years.0
