Does anyone know the best/easiest way to remove woodchip wallpaper from plaster board.

We have spent the past 2 days removing it from one wall and have the rest of the room to do

We have used a scraper and lots of elbow grease so far.

The top layer came off very easily but the backing paper is left

    Please advise!!!!!

    You're not using steam?!!

No steam just lots of elbow grease.

I used a sponge last night and it came off alot easier!

Just buy a steamer /borrow a steamer, it will bring joy to your wallpaper stripping life. Seriously, it makes it so much easier!

I'm impressed with your tenacity but I found it much easier (walls and ceilings in a large knock through lounge diner) by scoring and steam :)
  • I took my woodchip paper off ( and most of the plaster underneath it) with a steamer. Chatting to a neighbour ( who happens to be a painter and decorator) about it later, he told me that the best way to get woodchip off is to use a scraper to skim the surface of the woodchip I.E. Removing the chips. Then to spray/wash/wet the wallpaper with warm soapy water, and keep doing this till the wallpaper is saturated. Then remove with a scraper. He didn't recommend a steamer as it strips off the plaster underneath ( as we found out to our dismay).

For scoring I use a Stanley maxi orbital wallpaper scorer, makes the job a lot easier and doesn't damage the plaster.
  • The steamer won't damage the plaster as long as you don't have it over the same area for too long - keep it moving.
