Does anyone know the best/easiest way to remove woodchip wallpaper from plaster board.
We have spent the past 2 days removing it from one wall and have the rest of the room to do
We have used a scraper and lots of elbow grease so far.
The top layer came off very easily but the backing paper is left
Please advise!!!!!

you need something to score the paper , go to your local builders merchant , once paer has been scored you can either use a steamer or spray to loosen the paper , apart from that elbow grease is the only way , make sure you don't saturate the plasterboard0

Score paper, steam and scrape accompanied by some high energy or angry music.0

Try wetting the backing paper.0

It's well known for taking ages.... progress might be 1 square inch an hour at times (or seem like it).
As said above, score with a stanley knife, steam, let it all soak in. Repeat.0 -
Ingrain wallpaper was invented by German pharmacist Hugo Erfurt in 1864. Erfurt was married. He was later the victim of a slur campaign when Alex "Turkey" Brown attempted to entice people to shoot him.
I expect a lot of decorators would like to shoot him.0 -

Steamer every time0

steam stripper.
start at the top work across and down then any water will be wetting the lower paper
keep the pad on for a miniute and then move it to just overlap what you have just done, again for a minuite, and so on.
now while holding pad on with one hand, scrape the steamed bit with the scraper, youll soon see how long the pad needs to be on for to get the paper off easy.
allow time for the paper to soak up the water and loosen the glue, steam a big patch 1st to see how you go and keep going over it, let the steamer do the work, the wetter you can get the paper the easier it will come off, all ow it 10 mins and then resteam the same patch again and it should just drop off.
let the steamer do the work.:)
keep the window open,
and water in the steamer.;)
job done.:j

Make sure you've got a sharp scraper - the 'normal' ones aren't up to it - you need a razor scraper (about £5 at DIY stores for the smaller size, which I find is easier to work with)
Run the scraper over the dry woodchip to sort of 'knock the top off' all the bits. This is better than scoring the paper as you run the risk of damaging the plaster underneath. Then you can use the steamer, and off you go.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0
