Old style daily thread Monday 20th January

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Good Morning everyone ,black as your hat outside this morning and very, very frosty.I know I shall have to scrape the windscreen this morning as my car is very igloo-looking
:).monday morning again and another week ahead.I think I'm coming down with a cold as I can't stop sneezing this morning and feel very 'bunged up'.
I found a recipe for mincemeat tray bakes which I am going to make this morning as I also found a jar of mincemeat at the back of the cupboard when sorting yesterday.Hopefully it will turn out like the mincemeat slices with a sort of shortbread pastry that you can buy in the bakers.
DD loves those so I thought I'd give it a go.My sis-in-law gave me another hoard of books yesterday and some really nice cook books amongst them so I am going to go through them this morning and have a good look and see what I can find.
Hope everyone has a good day and keeps wrapped up warm this morning its very chilly out there
Take care all
Cheers JackieO xxx0 -

Morning!!
Had a lovely weekend, went to soft play Saturday and DD1 ran circles around DH! I think they both needed a nap when we got homeyesterday we went to my mum's for dinner. Her BF made her a naughtie cake of chocolate brownies with chocolate fudge, and turned it into pigs in a barrel of mud!!! Mum sent us home with half a cake!!!!! I got 10 slices from it so the boys snacks for lunch are sorted!!
DD got her birthday presents too, and I'm so pleased everything fits in my house
Anyway, today I've got washing AGAIN, and I'm still restocking the freezer with bread, so I need to make 2 more loaves today, along with pasta salad for DS lunches for 2 days this week. I have Health Visitor at 11am for DD1 2y check and DD2 8-10w check. I tried to tell her that 11 was too late and DD1 will be napping, but they don't care! Oh well, I'll try and keep her up, weigh her first then get her up to bed.
This afternoon we 'might' have a play date. It's with someone who cancels 50% of the time, so....
Tonight dinner is an easy Sausage, Croquettes and Beans.
Lunch for DD1 is Mini Cheese Omlettes, and I'm having Soup (both from the freezer). The boys have sandwiches and cake in their lunch boxes.
Tonight DH and I need to make yogurt and 2 lemon drizzle cakes (for the freezer).
Hope Everyone has a great day xWe spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -
Morning all
Hope you all had a good weekend. I have been signed off work until at least Friday until they can get my pain meds good enough that I can function. The ones they have me on at the moment are not doing that
Ttftm - hope your sleep pattern improves soon.
Julie Georgina - hope the appt doesn't disrupt the wee ones pattern too much.
Plans yesterday for pj day didn't happen. Mum and dad popped in so I went to Costco with them just to get out the house. When I came back I cleared out my wardrobes and shoes. Hoping to do the drawers today but am so sore I might not manage.
Have a great day all and best wishes to those feeling down or sad.

Morning :hello:
Mum rang yesterday afternoon and told me E was in labour and we've heard nothing since! Dad has sent my brother a text, as soon as he replies I'll be updated. The baby blankets are having a freshen up in the machine at the mo. I want to buy a couple of cardigans for the baby but I'll wait til he's born, I didn't want to buy them then find out he's a big baby and they're already too small
I'm halfway through crocheting a blanket, it's a bit wonky but I'm happy with it so far
The deep litter method in the chicken shed wasn't working very well so I cleaned it all out a couple of days ago and have started again. It wasn't as bad as I thought, some of it had started to compost quite well so I've thrown it into the compost bins. Not bad for the time of year and the amount of time it's been there (just a few weeks). It was a bit too wet so I need to add more dry 'ingredients' this time round. We picked up three sacks of coffee bean husks on friday so I'll use that.
We bought a coffee grinder on friday, that was my first trip to John Lewis. Does shopping there and grinding my own coffee beans finally make me a grown-up? :rotfl:Bulletproof0 -
Hester - hope your DD is ok and take care of you xx
Butterfly Brain - I know exactly the process you are going through as we were doing mine yesterday. I ended up knocking myself out with Diazepam as I was so anxious xx
Honey - rest up xx
Suppose I've got to get out of PJ's today as GP and errands.
Hugs for a good OS style day xxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning All
Another Monday, I'm sure the P7s will still be full of their week away, I think I may have caught up with my sleep at last! had a good 8 hours last night.
Friends came round for dinner yesterday, they did some jobs for me so I now have curtains up in the living room and the downdstirs toilet fills after being flushed (it took about an hour before).
Veggie fajitas for tea tonight, not a lot else planned, DD came back from Newcastle with more dirty washing but it can wait!
Raining here again, hope your weather is better. Take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone
Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x
Now getting light, very cold and very frosty.
DH up and gone to work stupid early.
Lunch yesterday was delicious, and we were all stuffed and no-one really needed anything else to eat - just a cuppa and a mince pie etc. Dinner tonight is sausages, mash, veg and onion gravy - sausages are defrosted and in the fridge as I remembered to get them out yesterday afternoon.
Back to work for me today - seems like I've been off for ages - have to be honest am now realising that I wasted a lot of time last week with not getting stuck in and getting stuff done whilst I was off. There's not a lot of point worrying about it now though - I can't get that time back so just need to be mindful that in future if I have time off to use it more wisely!
Did a load of washing yesterday afternoon, I put that on the airer overnight so is nearly dry - another load is in WM as we speak but won't be finished before I leave for work - so will put that on the airer after work tonight and that can dry overnight. Have done meter readings back end of last week and have obviously been using the TD too much as we had a sizeable credit on the account and the bill was that and more - so am trying to cut down the TD usage.
Need to crack on as have to take DS2 to school as he has extra maths after school and it's too late for him to walk home - I take him in this morning and then go and collect him after work on my way home. If I get time I also need to take the pj's I bought them both that still have the security tags on them.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone,
Had a nice weekend though quiet.Plenty of DGD time as she stayed over Friday, until DS2 picked her up Sat lunchtime to take her swimming.I did the shopping while DH went to get 2 new tyres put on the van2 hours travel to work is wearing them down too quick & he's getting the other 2 next week-needs must.
DS1 went to his mates Sat night( he took a basic pizza and some lo chicken,BBQ sauce and a bit of cheese in a tub to add when he got there,:money:must be rubbing off on him) so we had a nice tea of a ys curry along with all the sides I froze the other week which were left from having friends over ( our local takeaway does a set meal for 2 which includes naan,2 tubs of rice and a side dish-far too much for us,so our 4 friends left the untouched ones for us to freeze :T.It felt like we'd had a blowout curry for the grand outlay of £2.59.
Nice walk yesterday with the dog,it was quite a nice day here, beef cooking in the sc.DS2 asked us over for an hour as I hadnt seen DGS all week, had a cuppa and catch up.We'd left the log burner on so it was nice and cosy to come back to.We stoked it up last night so it was warm when we came down and the heating hadnt kicked in either. Its still just about in now but more wood needs chopping first if I want to revive it,so will have to leave it till I've been out with lylapup.
I used a jar of mincemeat up yesterday too JackieO,mincemeat slices, got the recipe off here somewhere, and mincemeat flapjacks.Did an apple pie too as had pastry to use up so the slices have gone in the freezer.
Ok time to don my wellies for our twice daily mudbath :rotfl:hope you all have good days.
HH,hope your DD is ok x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0
