I just received an email advising me that they had automatically renewed my subscription due to expire on 3rd February The cost was £64 99 and I was annoyed that they had processed this without my authority. I went online and got them to cancel it I was offered a 40% reduction and an extension to 18 months I am now wondering if this was a good deal or not There seems to be other Norton at lower prices but the 360 seems to be expensive when I go to princerunners Wondering if I should go back to them and accept the deal which they offered me/? I am unsure of what the difference between the different packages offered by Norton I need one which will do my laptop and desktop. Advice would be appreciated. Sue

Option 1 - Pay the renewal (bad idea - WAY too expensive)
Option 2 - Find (buy) a license code online and use that (much cheaper than 1)
Option 3 - Ditch Norton and go for a free alternative (e.g. Avast, AVG etc with Windows firewall and Malwarebytes Antimalware for occasional scans)
I would (and have) gone with 3.0 -
Shop around but Amazon or PC World often seems as good a place to buy Norton products as any. No need to install the disk. Just enter the key number that comes with it into the existing installation.Error! - Keyboard not attached. Press any key to continue.0

It's cheaper to buy a new disc than it is to buy the renewal via Norton.0

As above, never ever buy the online renewal.
I find the best way of stopping these sort of 'opt-out' money stealing scams is to 'lose the credit/debit card every 11 months or so.
Watch out for Paypal too. They also have this subscription type set-up that companies can use.
You can, however, go into your paypal account and delete these type of automatic renewals.

I would recommend everybody checks their paypal account every few months to make sure they haven't allowed these through.
As for anti-virus:
Play or Amazon will get you a cheap paid-for package.
EDIT: Oh, installed Kaspersky Internet Security on a few pcs last week using a brand new (from Play.com) KIS 2012 (5 user) activation code. Just download the trial version of the 2014 KIS from the Kaspersky website and update license with 2012 code.0 -
Avast is my prefence. Free, simple and it works.
Don't pay for antivirus. There is simply no need with good free alternatives available.0 -
I purchased Norton 360 from Curry's online for £18 a few weeks ago. It allows for installation on three computers. When the subscription runs out I will be looking for another cheap deal. They wont be able to renew me automatically because I do not give them my personal details.0

Thank you for that I was in Currys this week a problem with a printer and looked at their packs There seemed to be several but the 360 package seems much more expensive I will have another look Thanks again
