Compensation for data protection breach?
Hi,
I recently requested paper copies of my phone bill from Orange. A few days I had a number of text message from an unknown person demanding to know why my phone bills were coming to his address.
I phoned orange and they said someone had made a mistake and sent it to the wrong address as they had copied my post code in wrong, but got the correct house number.
I was wondering if I could make a claim as Orange have sent my bill, containing personal details, call history and account information to a third party, who I then received a number of text messages from?
When I phoned orange did they say they'd send me the bills to my correct address and put me on a slightly discounted tarrif etc.
Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Sounds like they have sorted the problem out and apologised through reducing your bill already.0

What has this to do with credit cards?
I would think the discounted tariff would provide more than enough compensation considering you have suffered no loss.Still rolling rolling rolling......

Why do you need compensation?0

I think that's got to be worth ten grand, an apology from the queen and a lifetimes free supply of skittles.0

They made a one-off mistake and it's hardly like you suffered any loss, all you got was a call from a miffed individual about it.
You could take it further and write to the CEO, advising the shortfalls of their current system I guess.
Since the actual loss is negligible (details were not misused and an extra call to deal with it) maybe a quid should do it?0 -
We all make mistakes, part of life, don't dwell, move on.0

It would be a token amount for inconvenience unless you can prove you've suffered financial loss0

The FOS would value this at around the £150-£250 mark.
But they don't regulate mobile phones.
Ask for a bigger contract discount.0 -
The Claim,Blame (and the PC) culture has really got out of hand!0

Surely if the letter had your name on it, the guy who's address it went to shouldn't have opened it anyway? Letters are usually sent with a return address on the envelope in case it was received in error. My biggest gripe would be with the guy opening your bills, instead of sending it back with a note that the recipient does not live there.
Saying that though, I believe you're just trying to get something from nothing and the fact they have already reduced your tariff should be enough.0
