Unrest in Bangkok

Hello
Booked flight and hotel to Bangkok using Amex card through Expedia on 11/01/2014, travel dates 05/02/2014 to 12/02/2014. Flights are with Emirates. Package is ATOL protected.
Bombs have exploded a few hundred yards away from my hotel - to do with the unrest and demonstrations there currently.
FCO website says it's safe to travel there currently.
Contacted Expedia today and they state if I cancel at this time I will not be refunded flight or hotel. This may change in the future and to just wait and see.
Anybody else in this position?
I'd rather cancel now and arrange a new holiday rather than wait and see?
Can I cancel on my credit card, or would I be billed anyway as I've entered into contract with Expedia?
Also, any suggestions on a short trip to BKK, places to go, things to do?
Thanks

Your credit card will stipulate the same terms as expedia. They won't intervene until the FCO says so.0

A couple of my friends are in Bangkok right now, so I see what you mean. Is the hotel part of a chain ? i.e. could you ask the hotel to transfer you to another in their chain, outside of Bangkok ?0

I think it's part of a chain... with other hotels in Bangkok hehe
Hopefully things will stay peaceful there, though I see the government has declared a state of emergency there for next 60 days!0
