¡Hola! Just to cheer you all up its raining heavily here ATM. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: but the good news is the sun is forecast back again tomorrow
. A little windy though, so will be behind the wall;);)
Not quite a PJ day for me have an old velour tracksuit on. Skye still asleep on the settee beside me, she hasn't been outside yet, heard the rain and went back to sleep. I did put some photos of her by the sea on FB. Will try to get one on here of you non Fbers.
If DH is in the mood we may do some housework, if not then will do some Family History research, trying to get a cousins family sorted ATM. He is muttering about sorting out a corner of the kitchen ATM, so will leave HM to it. He's the tidy one round here.
I has a couple of steaks I found in the freezer so the will be dinner tonight. I cooked two chicken carcasses in the SC yesterday, then carefully deboned them, so have some chicken dinners for Skye. I had frozen one carcass from last time as had no time to do it before we left, put them in the fridge last night, so will put some in the freezer today. Need to finish a baby jacket I only have one front band to do for a neighbour out here.
Lovely to see you again Molly, HH hope DD is OK, nmic you do right treating yourself, you seem to be always cooking, and doing everything. ((Hugs)), Spoons, Positive Vibes to all, the poorlies, hurters, none-sleepers, hard workers, or anyone who'd like one. Take care everyone. DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Hi everyone,
Hester, I hope your DD and the babies are ok.
I slept well last night - I put an extra cover over my feet and that seemed to do the trick, I've tried bedsocks but my feet then get too hot.
I'm in the throes of making a wall of old photos in the Yorkshire house, it seems to lend itself to it somehow. I'm very pleased with the way it's taking shape.
One of the neighbourhood cats has presented us with a pile of crap on the mat just outside the back door! I wish I could catch it, it wouldn't do it again.
Hopefully the weather is starting to look a bit brighter because we want to get out for a walk if we can find somewhere that's not too waterlogged. Then roast chicken for dinner and I think we'll give the Three Musketeers a try, it looks like there'll be some eye candy at least.0 -
Hi everyone, I'm back on this forum after being inspired to be thrifty. I now work full time, ten hour shifts four days a week.
I don't earn a massive amount and I have found January tough, seven weeks with one month's pay!
I am looking for tips for a young working person on how to make the most of their money.
I am going to try and cut down on on my food budget by going down a brand, making all of my dinners and lunches. I'd love some tips for preparing meals for work and making the most of ingredients.
I read here someone makes all their sandwiches for the week and freezes them, which I never thought of, brilliant idea.
I would love to save as much as possible, and hopefully if I prove to myself I can be thrifty, I could rent my own place instead of sharing (which does my head in).
Any advice is appreciated - thrifty tips for clothing/beauty is also welcome.0 -

Afternoon All
A dull, miserable day today, not quite raining but I'm sure it will soon. Washing on the airers but not much I can do about that. Need to give the bathrooms a quick clean and hoover about, friends coming over for tea so will make chicken and leek pie. Sistercas - You've just reminded me that I have mincemeat left so may make some mince pies too while I am doing pastry.
Been to the SM and got the food for the week - I will not go to the shops again till next weekend, I'm fed up of going for a few bits and spending far too much.
Spoke to my friend in oz this morning, we are planning a trip to Thailand but I need to get to oz first via Hong Kong and its quite frustrating trying to get flights sorted. Tried Emirates as they go from Glasgow but it's showing over £9000! I'm sure I can do it cheaper, just need to sit down and sort it.
DD will be back from Newcastle later, she accidentally phoned me at 4.30 this morning - all I could hear was shouting and laughter. Hope she's suitably tired!
Welcome to graduate bum and thriftkitten. Hugs to those not feeling so good. Enjoy Sunday. Take care. XX0 -
Sneaking in late again
Hester, everything here is crossed for your daughter.
Had a quick run out to the lighthouse after chapel. It was between tides so the shoals were just covered and there were many whitecapped waves - a lovely grey and white sea scape of waves against the rocks under a grey sky with assorted clouds while the seagulls were being thrown about in the gusts like feathery boomerangs. The inshore rescue boat was towing in a battered and semi submerged small boat. I wish I could paint pictures that look like anything.
DH is making us a salmon salad plate lunch, so I've got my feet up after climbing up to the attic room with a camera to take photos of the 'spare' furniture we have to offer DD & SiL. They are busy putting their present flat to rights after being there almost 3 years and are moving to a rented house, still trying to add to their deposit money at the same time. Won't kill them, but it does get hard when they know the rent they are paying would more than cover a mortgage.
Ooh, lunchtime
Have a good day xI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Afternoon All,
Been MIA for over a week as I have been laid up after a serious attack of inflammation of my left arm and left knee. Gave in on Friday and contacted the Dr for anti-inflammatory tablets (which I am supposed to avoid because of high blood pressure). Tablets have helped as arm is nearly back to normal and knee back to 80% plus.
Big birthday weekend with one niece being 18 and another niece having her 32nd!. Two beautiful girls we are very proud of.
Have a good day everyone :beer:0 -
Why did I ever think weekends were for relaxing and doing things you want to do, as opposed to things you have to do?
Yesterday was manic - audiologist appt cancelled at the last minute, but still had to go into town for veggies; then Mr LW discovered a potential problem regarding the new car purchase, and sat waiting for the dealer to call him back rather than doing anything useful (could've had the phone in his pocket while he worked, but I guess that'd have been multi-tasking, which he doesn't do) so I was scratting around to get tasks done.
Today, had to send Mr LW off to Woburn farmers market as we were desperate for eggs; I got my daily WiiFit done while he was out (can't be doin' with an audience) then we were off to Mr A - only able to get part of my list, there was NO own-brand R£d Bull substitute, and NO tomato puree in jars (I can't manage with tubes as I can't squeeze them nowadays, and I dislike getting it in tins); so I've moved those forward to a new list.
I've since taken Jessie out, and updated my spreadsheets to reflect today's shop; now I have my emails to do, see if there's any surveys to fill out.
I have a bunch of cleaning tasks this afternoon (Mr LW can knuckle down and do the ironing) and by the time I'm done, it'll be time to make the veggie toad in the hole for dins (we're having our main meal this evening).
Then it'll be Mr LW's choice of what we do this evening (£10 to a dog-biscuit he'll want to play Skyrim) and that's the weekend over.
I'd hoped to get some of my waistcoat knitted (at this rate it won't be finished before next winter, let alone this) but I don't see me getting chance somehow.
Oh, and my tinnitus is driving me de-men-ted!!:eek:If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Sorry to hear some of you are not feeling good, hopefully things will improve for you.
I'm another vote for a pj day, although I've baked some bread, have leek and potato soup on the go in the slow cooker and am just thinking about baking something sweet - not sure what yet though.
I love Sundays it's time I can spend baking, messing around in the kitchen or crafting2014 20p savers club #2 I've given up trying to keep track of how much that pig eats!
2014 £2 savers club #3 - I've no idea, but the pig is beginning to get mighty heavy
