OLD STYLE DAILY - 19th January 2014 Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday January 17th. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all,

Too early and dark to see what the weather will do today, I am up early because I am off to work again, looking forward to my day off tomorrow.

I must say I cried at the Book Thief too a couple of times, its in my top 10 of best books ever !

Dinner tonight will be fish pie with jacket potatoes to bulk it out, the fish pie turned out quite tiny and wont do the two of us on its own.

DD stayed at her boyf's last night so I shall expect her at some point today.

Have good days all and hugs where needed xx

    Morning all

A slightly better nights sleep last night (thanks to the sleeping tablets). In a lot of pain today but determined not to let it get me down.
Plans for today - no spend day :T
    - stay in pjs and read and watch movies with my DD
    - do a freezer inventory and menu plan for the week
    - get DS to Hoover stairs and landing as I cannot
    manage

Miserable weather up here. Windy and rainy so all the more reason to go nowhere.

Off to make another cup of tea quietly as DD still asleep!!!!

    Have a great day all

    Lyn x

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • Morning all.
So peaceful in this house right now. Dh didn't sleep well last night and is now zonked out. Dd is still dreaming away and even the dogs are still snoring. Making the most of the quiet while I can.
Got to make some more bread today as they have eaten most of Fridays loaves. Bit of washing to do and dry, and when dh wakes up a trip to the fish shop to get some more plants for the tank.
Had a nice surprise from my bro as he has told me that when he visits at half term my dad has asked if he can come and stay for the week as well, so will be a squash but I am so looking forward to it.
Only thing is I will have to give my little dog his clip early as he used to be dads dog and dad doesn't like him looking long haired (dog is 14 and feels the cold so I had better make him another coat so he has one for spare).
The floor cushion has been claimed by my dd and she wants me to make her one for her room so that's my next project.
oops I can hear the dogs stirring so better go and feed them.
    Hugs to all xx
    Bright Blessings xx
  • Morning all.

Still in bed at the moment. Both boys are still asleep and hubs is snoring away next to me.

Not much going on today, bit of housework, feeding the washing machine, roast chicken for dinner and then some serious crochet.

We went to Costco yesterday and did some serious stocking up. I saw a halogen oven there. I'm seriously considering getting one but they seem to good to be true. Our built in oven is rubbish, it takes ages to heat up and cooks unevenly. Can you really do everything in it?

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Now light although very dull and dreich, and very wet underfoot again, and has just started raining again.

DH, DS2 up drinking cuppas, watching tut tv, whilst I'm on here. DS1 having a lie in as he worked with DH yesterday and was then late to bed last night.

Whilst menfolk at work yesterday I did manage to collect DH's suit from the dry cleaners, get a load from WM to TD, made the lasagne meat sauce whilst making and cooking mince pies and a Victoria sponge cake. Whilst in the SM (that's where the dry cleaning shop is), I picked up a newspaper and checked out the clothes in the sale and managed to buy both boys a set of pyjamas but shorts not long trousers only one's they had in their respective sizes, so bought both, have got them home and the security tags haven't been taken off - so will take them back tomorrow morning on my way into work - good job I had kept my receipt! Went in the same shop prior to xmas to buy them a set of new py's for xmas - and was told that they don't stock the shorts pyjamas sets at this time of year - now they have some in stock a couple of weeks later??!!

Dinner last night was lasagne, stuffed jacket potato (just cooked 2 small'ish one's and we all had half each) with salad. Lasagne was delicious - haven't made 1 for ages, and have found it really makes is more flavoursome to make the meat sauce and let it simmer on the stove for ages. There is 1 large portion left, that I managed to get into the fridge boxed up before anyone ate it! This has now been transferred to the freezer this morning. So have another HM ready meal.

We have decided to be naughty today and have booked a restaurant for lunch - it's 1 of my favourite places to eat. So no cooking for me today. Will just organise lunches etc for tomorrow and make sure everyone has all the relevant uniforms etc ready. Other than that I'm going to have a very lazy day. We'll call in on the outlaws and my parents later - once we're had lunch.

DH going for a bath, I'll go for a shower in a mo.

    Need to crack on now.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning everyone :)

Didn't even manage to stay awake for the first Bridge last night, let alone 2 episodes. Managed to sleep until 8am and feel bright eyes and bushy tailed this morning. Now let's see if I can do the same on work nights.

Washing machine is on and load washed overnight is in the tumble drier. It does look like it is brightening up here so the washing in now may get to go on the line. Apart from the use of electricity, tumble dried washing never smells or feels the same as line dried. Though I will confess as someone who never irons her clothes, I do put all my line dried skirts and tops in the tumble drier on the 10 minute cooling cycle and that makes them wearable and make me in a presentable state!

No idea what is for dinner and need to check freezer and do meal plan for the week. Possibly fish with chorizo and peppers mixed with orzo pasta.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

  • Good Morning all,sun is shining at the moment, but quite nippy. I have my sis-in-law from Faversham coming this morning.I have made a nice lemon drizzle cake and also some cheese scones for her to take home. She is off to see my niece in Mexico next week for three weeks ,hopefully she may bring some sunshine home with her.We are hoping that lorraine ,(my niece) will be coming home for a holiday this year as she's not been back for several years. She settled out there in 1974 when she married her OH who is mexican, and she runs her own restaraunt. It will be nice to see her when she comes over (fingers crossed ) in the summer.
Still NSD today as I have more than enough to keep me going for a few more days.
I hope all the poorlies are feeling a bit brighter, and Julie you are taking it easy and not rushing around ,baby steps now, or you will end up back in hospital and staples put back in.
Right time for some coffee and porridge for breakfast I think,it will keep me warm and fueled up until lunchtime :):):)
Cheers chums have a good day

    Molly, enjoy your PJ day
I'm hoping for a more peaceful day today, yesterday;s included visitors for lunch with very little warning, I did home made leek & potato soup, bread from the local bakers, salad & a cheese board that was left over from Christmas. They arrived & then announce that they don't eat potatoes so the soup was no good, don't eat bread & it was too cold for salad! So they went hungry!
After they'd gone & I cleared up, I sat down to do some knitting, phone call from DD, she needed to go to hospital, we got there at 6 as it took an hour to do a 20 minute journey I was there until 9:30 when they decided to admit her, possible appendicitis or ectopic pregnancy. By the time I got home my ankles were the size of footballs, fortunately they went down over night as I'm having her children today whilst her hubby visits and/or takes in anything she needs. Don't think I'll get much knitting done today either somehow.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Good Morning all, I stumbled across this thread and thought it seemed rather inviting. I love anything old style, so thought I'd curl up here with my coffee whilst the house is quiet and have a natter. Both Dd's stayed out last night so have missed my morning cuddles, 2 elderly pugs are snoring away at my feet (great hot water bottles.) I am waiting with baited breath for payday, it is simply dragging as we were paid early last month due to xmas, so this is quite a stretch (6 weeks) I have nothing in the cupboards really so will have to improvise. Eggs are a plenty here due to the rescue hens, they are such darlings and are laying up a storm; I have some bacon and onions, so some mini quiche's for my lunch box will be made today. As a treat when my Dd2 11yrs comes back from friends we will make some loaves together, she really loves to help in the kitchen, maybe a few fairy cakes also and I must condition myself to make a meal plan for the coming week, although its hard as whilst I'm at work DD1 (15) helps herself to most of the single ingredients for snax instead of waiting, I think batch cooking may help as she will only have to heat something rather than waiting for her meal. Currently the sun is shining here in cornwall although it is rather brisk. The chickens are forraging and all I can see from the kitchen window is feathery butts in the air. Oh well I could prattle on for ages, but am being idle, it's time to get some prepping done and feed the washing machine as its metal belly is groaning in hunger....Have a warm and lovely day all

  • Sending positive thoughts Hard up Hester, I do hope your daughter is ok, It's always a worry with kids, I remember thinking... Oh as they get older you worry less.... I must of had an off day as I can't imagine why I thought that was ever correct lol. I have taught my dd2 (11yrs) to knit, got her some smaller needles thinking I would get mine done whilst she was doing her's, but spend most of my time trying to sort her's out as she has dropped a stitch or done something wrong and can't figure it out.....Hope you have some good news re daughter x
