Very happy with Barclaycard....See why!

Options
I am very happy with Barclaycard.

Tonight I phoned up to cancel my card I dont use (Barclaycard Platinum £800 Limit @ 29.9% APR with 27 Month BT offer). I used the card purely to pay off a BT which I did a few months ago. The card was at £0.00 so thought I'd consolidate my accounts and close it.

I had a lovely chat with an Indian chap; I explained that I have a Nationwide CC which is a low rate of interest with a higher limit.

He then said, please dont close it. I will change with limit to £2400 and lower the APR to 21.9%.

Very happy with this & the service! Yippeeee!

Has anyone else experienced this kind of service before?

Regards,

Barclaycard are known for doing this. Their last resort is usually to just buy your custom with £50.

After an initially unhelpful conversation around Christmas with BC I had a second conversation which resulted in having my credit limit doubled.

The DD had failed to reconcile properly over Christmas and had resulted in what appeared to be a pending transaction TO the card, throwing me over my credit limit by a considerable amount. The first CS rep's response was that I'd just have to wait until the 3rd of January to use it as, and I quote "I had exceeded my credit limit". I wasn't happy but had to grin and bear it, but called again next day and got someone with a brain, credit limit doubled with no credit search.

It seems to be that if you act in the slightest bit unhappy then they try to keep you as a customer. What they don't know is that their first cockup is one of the reasons I moved majority of my custom to Amex, I may well have not done that if they'd had the right attitude on my first call as up until then I was very happy with BC and the incredible amounts of cashback I earned off it.
    Oh, you wee bazza!

Do Barclaycard usually only increase your limit when asked?

Ive had one four months, so didn't expect an increase at the moment but just expected them to be increased as time went on like with Aqua.

I have had one for over 2 years and the limit has never been increased (£6.5K limit).

i am glad you are pleased. but i would still avoid the interest rate by whatever means necessary. you don't want to be paying Any interest on the card.
better would be to have a cashback card with them....perhaps they could 'upgrade' your account?...and then earn cashback on your spending, and clear the full balance every month

I find it odd that a call centre worker who lives in India can unilaterally decide to increase the credit exposure of his UK employer. Would the computer already be showing him that a credit limit increase is grantable?

I don't see what nationality has to do with it.

Their call centre worker obviously has the authority to do it - it makes no difference where they are based - and from the OP it sounds as if he was taking to their retention/cancellation department who are likely to have more discretion than other staff.

Besides, as you say, the computer systems probably indicated that they could offer what they did.
