If you called the CSA and they told you what to pay, then it should be 20% of your salary minus the deduction for having your children more than 52 days a year. I don't understand why you now think it would be £160 more, unless your income has significantly increased and you haven't changed the amount.

What is her situation? Is she single? Working full-time? How much does she earn? Is she referring to breakfast and/or afterschool clubs that she now has to pay? Could it be that she isn't entitled to any tax credits any longer, in which case, it could be that depending on what you pay at the moment, it only goes towards this cost?

    Hi

Thanks everyone for the advice it really is appreciated.

The £160 I mentioned is if she with holds the kids and the CSA see it as me not having the kids, currently I am paying close on £400 but like you said that's with the deductions for me having the kids. If I don't get access, reading some of the other posts on here they will increase my payment as they then base it on me not having the kids at all.

If £550 is 20% of your NET salary then you must be earning around £45k per annum. That's not a low income!!!

It's important for the children that you keep up the regular access so get legal advice.

There are several separated fathers' support forums which might be useful as well.

That depends what part of the country your in? If you're in Chigwell and paying exterminate housing costs then £45k isn't really a lot. Be another matter if you lived in Middlesborough...

Mortgage is my only debt - Original mortgage - January 2008 = £88,400, March 2014 = £47,000 Chipping away slowly! Now saving to move.

I sincerely wish I was on £45k, if I was I wouldn't be here but in reality I'm no where near that figure. I live in London and rent is £900 a month for a one bed flat, council tax £130, bills come to approx £250 which includes mobile, water, gas, electricity and a few others. I have a cheap and cheerful runaround which only gets used to pick up and drop off the kids but due to the distance they are from me easily sees half a tank of petrol a weekend equating to £30 x 4 = £120 (They live in Essex). By the time I have paid my ex her money I have anywhere between £30 and £50 a week for food, depending on overtime being available. Travel to work is not an issue as I use a bike, a way of me saving money.

I lived in London for 7 years so know how expensive things are. Still, when full time on minimum wage is about £12.5k, £45k isn't low.

I don't understand how the two days a week would make such a difference. Are you sure you are currently paying the right amount?

From what I understand the current payments are £400 and will increase by £160 if shared care stops. The shared care reduction equates to £37 per week for 2 nights. If you divide this by 2 and multiply by 7 you arrive at the 'full' liability of £129 which equates to £559 per month. This is virtually what the OP has said he will have to pay if the shared care stops - £560. Hope this helps FBaby.

But OP says his income is low and nowhere near the £45K that would justify that amount so doesn't make sense he would be paying £400 now if based on csa figures.
