Cleaned a few infections from my computer and its working a LOT better now BUT after telling me to run chkdsk it keeps running at boot up and I have to escape it to start the computer. If I don't it just sits there for hours until I turn off at the mains & reboot.
Also the primary AND secondary IDE and IDE/AMAPI channels are flagged up in the device manager and it doesn't show' the DVD drive.
When booting up with a disk in the dvd drive it gives the option of booting from this drive and continues to do so if I select Y so it is working OK. Dos finds it but Windows doesn't.
Assuming that the Op Sys that I was given is the correct one, would I find the drivers on the DVD? If so how do I install them?

Perhaps time for you to head back to your original thread
Back up and run a format and clean install. Install Chipset Drivers. No need to install useless crud(that includes ASC 7) this time....and install the Updates. No need to be running IE6 in this day and age....even if you don't use IE.0 -
That thread was for my GF's laptop which this computer is replacing as that thing was far too slow.
I have just done a clean install on this computer but it would appear that I inherited a nasty bit of Malware whilst trying to obtain drivers.
On advice I have since cleaned the system and it works nicely but I just need to sort out the DVD driver and the HD driver that is being flagged up under Device Manager (Primary & Secondary IDE Channel and Secondary ultra IDE/IMAPI Channel).
As the DVD player isn't responding I cannot copy the drivers from disk so I need to know where to download them from (Assuming that is how to remedy the problem).
