N-Power

Npower say that they are going to put my Direct Debit up from £139 to £252 with only 3 days notice. I have checked my bill and they owe me money.

This is the second problem I have had with n power in the last year. I switched to them last January and they did not send me any bills for six months, in spite of the fact I was sending in readings.

Is the N-power rep still on here as I am tearing my hair out with customer service?

NPower's systems are incapable of doing even the simplest of calculations correctly. You need to do the legwork yourself and put your case to the call centre to get the correct DD sorted. Gather all your old bills and meter readings and calculate your usage in both £ and kWh for the year and compare to your payments.

Get away from npower as soon as you can if you value your sanity.

Under the Direct Debit guarantee, you should be given at least seven days' notice so you could recall the money under the terms of the guarantee. Alternatively, you could cancel the DD with your bank but this could cause more problems if the DD is required in the Ts&Cs for your tariff.

Are you on a fixed or variable tariff?

It is variable I think, (they have just put up the tarif)

    Thanks for your reply.

If you have recently come to the end of a fixed-term contract then they should have put you onto their cheapest variable tariff. It would be a good idea to ask them which tariff you are on.

If this is so then I suggest you look for another supplier straight away. Are you familiar with using energy-comparison sites?

Yes I am, sadly that is how I chose N-power. The problem is, until I can sort out the horrendous mess they have made of my account there is nothing I can do.

If they owe you money then you can switch now and sort out the rest later when you are less stressed about it.

Don't forget that this new DD level may simply reflect the higher prices you are now paying for the next year so the sooner you switch the more you will save.

Ovo Energy and Co-op Energy are fairly competitive at the moment and both have a good customer-service record. Why not select a new supplier and request a switch now?

The best you can do is to try and change suppliers - then Npower would have to close your account and give you a final bill, or tell you why they won't.

Had same trouble for entire year with them. Tell them they have it wrong, that is why you are switching and cancelling the dd. They will have no valid reason to stop you leaving.
I got so fed up with these companies over charging on dd that I decided to try and do something, so set up an e-petition. Please sign if you can.

    Hope you sort it ok.
    Cheers
