npower fixed 2015 rejected because of "rules"

I applied using the Cheap Energy Club to switch to npower's fixed 2015 deal and everything was fine on the website.
Now I've had a letter from npower saying they've checked their systems and are "unable to offer this product to me due to the rules associated with the offer".

Has anyone else had this?

And why can't they just tell me what the problem is instead of the vagueness in the letter. Which rule is it? Even if it's the credit check, just tell me so I can get on with life. It immediately makes me suspicious when companies can't just be honest and tell you the real reason for anything.
Also it says an advisor will contact me to discuss product(s) available to me, so instead of carefully reviewing all the terms on screen at leisure, I can expect to be given a load of figures over the phone - Why not just put the alternative deal in the letter!

Sorry Gareth Pickles, Customer Service Director, not much customer service going on here.

Consider it a lucky escape. You have just had a taste of their customer service. Read multiple posts concerning npower and you can then breathe a sigh of relief.

    Edit
    Who is your current supplier?

This tariff is not available to prepayment customers or customers with non-standard metering. Does this apply to you?

I'm with EDF but now on standard tariff so ready to switch

No, I have standard meters, pay monthly direct debit and have done for ever, been with EDF for about three years
  • Either way, avoid NPower like the plague. Consider it a lucky escape!

You should look at Co-op, they have a single tariff and this December they wrote to me to tell me my ddeb where staying the same for the next 12 months...

If the advisor calls just make a list of the tariff names he offers and look them up on a comparison site at your leisure.

Don't agree to anything over the phone.

In my region, Ovo Energy and Co-operative Energy are fairly competitive at the moment. Ovo only does 1-yr fixes with exit charges.

Co-op has three fixes, all without any exit charges.

Thanks consumerist and Dave, just had a look at coop and it's only just dearer than npower was so looks good as it has no exit charges

Thank your lucky stars they rejected you!

You'll now not be driven crazy by errors on bills and over charging via your dd.
  • How do I get Cheap Energy Club to change my status from "switch in progress" so that I can go back to the alternative quotes?

Do I have to wait for npower to tell MSE (judging by some of the posts their record on prompt and accurate communication isn't good).
