    Either put the HDD in a USB caddy and connect it to a USB port, or open up the desktop and install it as a secondary drive alongside the current primary drive.

    As I said, there are visual guides all over the web, especially YouTube, that will show you how to do this.

    Alternatively you could get the files from your backups, you do take backups don't you?

    No, well now you have first hand experience of why backups are so important.
    One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.
