Note Jeremy Clarkson's over confidence. The report said that he lost money. I assume that the bank decided not to refund as he had not taken reasonable care with his bank account details.

Jeremy Clarkson chose not to claim the money back from his bank (as the DD was to a charity).
He would not have lost anything if he had claimed it back.0 -

You are correct. The Jeremy Clarkson story is misused by anyone who misunderstands exactly what the direct debit guarantee is. As the money was claimed by a charity he chose to let them keep it rather than claim it back.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Almost all machine printed mail is sorted automatically (the only machine print stuff that goes manual is where the postcode/CBC is non-existent or the address block isn't fully visible through the window, or there's so much other print on the envelope that the machine can't work out where the address is - bulk advertising is bad for that, bulk business mail is much better). The mail centre just wants it out of the door before due and the postman is likely far too busy trying to get his walks done for either of them to care - when you've got 1.5 million letters a day going through your centre you're not bothered about what's in them. There's a tiny risk of fraud, but the rules are firmly on your side if there is. You can always switch to 'paperless' statements.Yes but were they on show for anyone in the sorting office or postman to see?
Your bank has likely outsourced their direct mailing to the cheapest provider who then route through Royal Mail via downstream or clean mail bulk services. You can get higher quality printing but ultimately you'll pay for it in higher bank fees or lower interest rates.I will let them know just to feel better, the letter in the envelope could not move so no sliding around to make numbers visable in the window, it was packed like that, very poor.
NHS has less excuse though, there's all sorts of cheaply-printed second class bulk going through the system with medical details clearly visible - the cameras on mail processing machines can often read straight through the cheap envelope too.0 -

Perhaps you should reconsider your choice of new bank.
So which bank does not use sorting/ post deliveries please tell.
I already use online statements but new account's detail needs to be posted,
as already stated slight risk but
The more people see your account numbers = more risk of fraud.
The less people see your account numbers = less risk of fraud.
If you see it another way good for you.:T0 -

Don't overlook the risk that with those details someone can pay money INTO your account.0
