Lycamobile is indeed the best option now; it was previously T-Mobile. A friend of mine has this morning arrived back from the US with a few spare SIM cards which he is planning to sell on eBay.

'3' Feel At Home is worth checking.

ATT would be my choice, available from any of their shops as PAYG, if you need to call USA numbers. For calling back home use the 3 plan as per the last post. For a month, it's about £20 for 250 mins including the add on data package £3/50MB. You can pay in cash if you want, I did, top ups are easy if you need to.

It certainly is, and works for Three customers with call/data allowances.

AIUI it also works with Three 3-2-1 (PAYG) if you buy an add-on.

Another one to consider is PAYG with www.togglemobile.com which offers calls to landlines in several countries including the USA for 3p per minute and calls to mobiles from 3p to 9p per minute. It's important to register for local numbers for this (details on their website). I have used this in the USA and Switzerland.

Toggle is a great suggestion and a useful product. However, its significant drawback is its charge for data. Although it charges £7.50 for a gigabyte in the UK, it charges a whopping £150 per gigabyte or more outside the UK.
