We need to send @ £50 to India to book a trip whilst on holiday, we have the bank details but our bank wants £25 to do this. Any advice on the cheapest way to do this very welcome. We live in a rural area and nearest city is £20 return by train so electronic methods preferred.
thanks
thanks

Open an account with Custom House (https://www.xe.com)...
Personally, I would NEVER pay in this way for a trip in India. If they don't accept card payments then pay when the trip actually takes place, when you are there.0 -
Thanks for this, it is a legitimate state wide co-operative using local people to offer trips/accommodation etc, and we would like to support local providers while we are there. We have checked them and their bank details out and all appear legit0

I would recommend using Xoom to transfer money. I have used this service for several years now and it works great. When I send to an HDFC account the money gets there in less than a minute which is awesome! I sent over $1000 last week and there were no fees at all. Definitely recommend for sending money to India0

That's not quite right, as they shave a little off the exchange rate. Even at 1 Rupee per US$, that is 1000 Rupees. Nearly £10.
TransferWise offers better value.

So you've found a thread that's over a year old and just want to tell us how good Xoom are.....?

Exchange4free might be an option.
The thread was started back in Jan 2014, then resurrected in July 2014 by somebody recommending (or advertising) Xoom and then again yesterday by somebody also recommending (or advertising) Xoom.
I'ver reported Creques's post as spam, you may wish to do the same.0
