We're going to the US next year and thought it might be worth purchasing some US dollars now, whilst exchange rates are good. Whilst reserching the best exchange rates I came accross the Travel Money Service, who claim they will offer better rates if you order and pay for currency now to be delivered at a future date. Currently they are offering an exchange rate of 1.98 dollars for dollars paid for now and delivered in January. I have checked the holding company exists on Company's House but they only provide confirmation of an order when they have received a bank transfer into their bank account. Has anybody heard of this company and know whether it is legitamate.0

Cross posted to other thread...
hi, I hope someone can help me...
In 10 days time I leave for a couple of months travelling in the US and in Europe. I stupidly didn't even think to consider opening a new bank account just for these purposes. So, at this point, what would be the best thing for me to do? Between my husband and I, we have a few credit cards (visa and Mastercard with different providers) which we could use. I'm sure it'll be easy to use these in the states but I know I am looking at a 2.75% surcharge which is certainly going to add up.
We will take some cash with us and ensure we get the best possible exchange rate through this site, but with only 10 days to go, what would be the best way to manage our spending?
Thanks in advance.0 -

TMS is the same company as www.crowncurrencyexchange.com I have used CCE for the past three years. You order whatever currency you want and judge for yourself using either the moneymaximiser on this site or whatever means is available when is the best time to order for you. You then order the currency at the rate on that day and request a delivery date. Your currency is delivered special delivery on that date. They have provided a good service to me and there are no hidden charges. Te longer you order in advance the better the rate you get. I'm trying to order some money through
https://www.currency-express.com/travelcare/order.html
as it offers me the best rate for £250 into Czech Korunas.
However no matter what I do, I get the following error message when i try to choose my delivery option or pick-up location.
"Either no delivery method was selected or the selected method was not valid for the selected address"
Anyone having the same problem? What am I doing wrong? Help please0 -
For anyone with a Marks and Spencer &More credit card - they are not charging cash advance fees when purchasing foreign currency online or in store plus there are £10 vouchers to be had. Offer up to 13th July.

I ordered traveller's cheques on-line from M&S on Thursday and received them on Saturday with the paper voucher to use in store, there was no sign of the additional on-line voucher. I have called three times chasing the on-line voucher and each time had a different story, the poor staff there don't know what is going on as the number they have given in their confirmation e-mail is for the telephone ordering department. I hope they get this sorted soon as I want to buy clothes for my holidays0 -
Hi folks,
We are thinking about adding some new companies into the Travel Money Maximiser tool, and I've started another thread to get your feedback on them. So if you've 5 mins...

Hello,
When I'm travelling and buying stuff on a card, I'm often asked if I want to the item in Local or UK currency - whats the best?
I always think if I choose UK, then my card company (BC) will treat it a standard uk purchase - in past experiance I haven't been charged a handling a fee when I've had the option and selected UK (as far as I know!).
Any thoughts on pros/cons
Cheers

I have spoken to my bank First Direct and they tell me that they do charge for using the Switch/Maestro. They say the web site is wrong.

Hi guys.
One thing no-one seems to have mentioned on this thread is the use of cashback credit cards.
I am off to Spain next week, taking £200 GBP worth of euros, paid for in cash, so no charges, then I shall use my 5% cashback AMEX card for all other purchases.
Even when you deduct the 2.73% load fee, that still leaves 2.27% cashback! (yes, I have checked with AMEX, you still get the cashback for foreign transactions).
Surely this is better than using the 0% charges cards?0
