:hello: thank you, lovely people all!
Yep, I'm still looking - but even in relation to premium bonds, I told them that I moved :rotfl: so no joy there. But yes, its almost 5% now! Astonishing really, I wouldn't have believed it. The biggest single chunk was the money from the old PEP, the old version of the ISA, but other things have made a difference too - when I get to 10%, I'll do a summary, because I now have a spreadsheet where I keep track of it all
RT, I'll do the siggy after I've done the phone calls, not just made the decisionI promise. Goldie, shares really do rise and fall! I've had a few fallers in my time
A bit crazy, this, but I have *five* shares in Scottish Power
- I sold my main holding, but didn't realise these were already in my name, I'd love to find a way to sell them, that number is useless as an investment.
I *did* get out, ta muchly, very few people in the grounds, and a good piece of moneysaving news - I have an annual membership that I pay for in August, and what they do is send you a letter, telling you to hand the letter in and they'll give you your membership card. And my membership card runs from today, not from August :j:j:j which is what I'd expected. I may not need to buy another one.
And I thought of MrMoneyMustache, "borrowing from your future self" and decided not to buy the tea and cake to fill in the time waiting for the bus, and *not* to buy a sandwich or a cake at the convenience store so I could eat immediately I got home. Instead, I just heated up a can of tinned tatties (I'm addicted) and grated cheese over them. Slurp. Slurpity slurp. Cost about 30p, and an addiction fed
:rotfl: plus all that wheat and wheat gluten avoided.
2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Well done on avoiding the impulse food. I rarely buy food on the go now. I have realised that I really can wait. Forty years ago there were no takeaway snacks available in most locations and people were a lot healthier for it.Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -
Well done KC on waiting until you arrived home - your body will be so much happier for it!:j:j:j
After many years of giving in to impulse eating, OH & I now rarely go anywhere without high energy snacks that will tide us over until we can eat a proper meal. We are so much healthier for it & it is so much easier to stick to the budget when we avoid the impulse buys!
Our 'treat' is usually to cruise through the Waitr0$e aisles searching for red stickered items that fit into our way of eating - and we either eat them that night for dinner or stock the freezer and storecupboard! No frankenfood for us! - such a challenge on a tight budget!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Morning all! Isn't it interesting, that impulse buys to eat there and then can make such a difference? MMM's vision of paying your future self has really hit a chord with me
Today, the simple life, I think - clearing space for the garlic to go in, which has to be soon. And I've been wandering about the top floor when chatting to my sister on the phone, and seen the old leaks, where I had roof tiles replaced, have grown a bit in all this rain, and there's a new one in a completely different place. Tiny as yet, but these things grow over timeThey're both concerning in their own way
Life is pleasant enough, anyway, and I'm pretty sure the ceilings won't be coming down any time soon, so its all good2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Your future self will thank you. X0

Morning KC! Along the theme of planning ahead, thought you might enjoy this article I came across today - I'm liking the thought of the rice flour pancake! xox4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! I'm starting to experiment with growing stuff inside on the windowsill: the seeds from sweet peppers bought from the shops, more or less just sprouted in a thin layer of soil; spring onions (green onions in the States?) cut down and planted; and I definitely want to grow my own lettuce - I've got loads of seeds, it just makes sense to do it. Got to re-arrange the windowsills somewhat!Hey KC long time no see ( I've been mse absent )

I'm tidying and sweeping ... I'm a bit aware that I may have workmen tramping around the house very soon, cos of these ceiling problems, and frankly I'm ashamed of the amount of cleaning that needs to be done in the non-public parts of the house. One of the things I let go when I was virus-ridden so badly ... maybe I should start up a more normal cleaning regimen2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I keep trying to do that KC
Never quite managed it...
:rotfl:
Like the idea of not borrowing from your future self though :j I spent £5 on lunch etc while out todayMust get a grip!

When we are out and about now we are much more likely to take a snack with us. My future self might thank me, but my current self wants to do this, as I can be sure I've got something low in sodium with me!

Our dining room window sill is very sunny, and a few months ago we did a little experiment with seed growing. We planted chives and three other seeds. The chives grew fine, and the other things sprouted, but I lost interest , and everything died off.
I will try harder next time!Early retired - 18th December 2014
