Morning all
thank you CBC and beanie - modem seems okay today, there's another webinar going on, so I might be able to listen to that one. My sister gets trouble with her connection when it rains - that might have been the problem! I've just signed up for a cheaper broadband deal (but with the same supplier, unfortunately - £8 a month, though, same facilities, got to be good, as long as it works!).
Today:
- updating the Net Worth figures I have control over - forgetting the others for this purpose, its not useful.
- working in the garden - cutting back the box hedge (which is going really well) or finish laying down weed-suppressing cardboard.
- tidying.
- um, calling a pest controller. I need one to check up in the loft, I think something else has gained access, lots of scratching and rumbling about, though no squeaking like last time. Sounds big too  though late at night I'm not sure if its next door's dogs or the loft  I've never had a house like this oneSave2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Scratching and rumbling in the loft sounds very disconcerting:eek:. I hope you can get it sorted out easily and inexpensively. I always worry when having to call in the experts, finance-wise more than anything:o.
OH is away next week and I'm really looking forward to having the place to myself:j. Well, apart from the cat of course but he's not much company now the rabbiting season has started. Although we are in a relatively isolated location I never worry about being here alone but must admit that strange, unexpected noises in the dead of night tend to freak me out. Everything seems to creak once it gets dark (and it's really dark in the countryside at night:eek:)
It's a glorious morning here, I hope it is where you are. I'm about to venture out and wash all the downstairs windows. Not a job I like so it tends to get put off by the slightest excuse:o. These past few windy weeks have left them in a filthy state though so needs must.0 -
Thanks CBC - not done it yet, having an organisational chat with my sister - its amazing how much organisation retirement needs :rotfl:even though I started socialising again so recently, I have 9 things booked for April, and she has more
It *is* a glorious morning, here, thank you - my windows could certainly do with a clean, but they're not going to get it, even though I bought a soft brush from Poundlandnot today, anyway. Back in on the Net Worth Update, then the pest controller, then something in the sun :j

For clarity, I'll just update the figures for the various accounts I have, no point including property and inheritance: so this means cash and easy access accounts, ISAs, pensions, and shares.
March 2017: £118,017
April 2017: £122,188
And two of my three little private pensions are about to do an annual update, so there should be another shift upwards *next* month too :j
Some of the increase noted is because I was using very conservative estimates, some because of the tax rebate on that personal pension contribution I just made, as well as actual increases in funds :rotfl:
I've been living *extremely* frugally, and not going out much while I try to get my feet under the table properly, but naturally expenditure is going to increase now - mostly rail tickets and tickets for garden and historic house venues :rotfl:2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Well done! And exciting times ahead.0

Thanks SHS! There are some big one-offs ahead - renovating my 20 year old pushbike thats never been used, a new garden side gate and fence, repairing the plaster on the inside of the weatherward wall, renovating the brick shed including ridding of asbestos, some electrical dodginess that can't be allowed to stand, that sort of thing - I reckon it might be £10-12k. And I suspect there are floorboard issues, and who knows how much that might cost! Oh yeah, and the pest controller, forgot to find one.
Not doing it right now .... I've been online gathering together practical information about dehydrating, I really didn't want to buy another book, just wanted the basics on dehydrating raw materials - herbs, veg, that sort of thing, and I have it now

Great figures there KC and I will certainly do my own due diligence should I use Transferwise... it seems I've not actually been paid the money yet, despite assurances to the contrary....
Hope it's nothing too horrendous in the loft! :eek:Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Morning mse-ers
I've been ignoring the lofthad a routine dental appointment yesterday, plus dropped in to the library to attend a quick "what we can offer business" session, but I felt really nauseous the whole time. So I sat and watched DVDs
and read free kindle books
after which the entirety of the catchup work I did was to clean a clay flowerpot  such is life.
I feel a bit better this morning, but I'm out all of tomorrow, so I'm going to continue to not do much ... taking care of myself with tidying, the dishwasher, and the washing machine, and thats it. I may love my dishwasher, but I love my DVD player even more ... sort of dropping out the mse club just for the next few days2023: the year I get to buy a car0
