When I first got a cat, I had lodgers, so it was easy to have them looked after when I went away. Then I had friends to stay, after I could afford not to have lodgers. Then it go to be a bit tricky, and I paid for people to come and stay in the house, so they'd have companionship - that got a bit tricky relationship-wise, but only because of the personality of the sitter. It was expensive, but I could afford it then.
After that, as the cats were getting older (mother and daughter less than a year apart ) I employed a firm to come in and feed, water and change their litter. And when the older one was deteriorating, from diabetes, a nurse from the local vet practice came in (paid) every day to inject her, which was what I did ... there's always a way.
When I was starting to get a bit hard up, my business partner offered to pop round and feed and water them, over the whole Christmas week - I was doubtful, because he had rellies from Switzerland staying for the whole week - but he was longing to do it, because it got him into the peace and quiet of my house for half an hour twice a day:D:D He's very crafty, my business partner :rotfl:
Anyway, I've got ideas for headers and whatnot - it does take time! I'm doing one blog at a time now, I was confusing myself by doing *both* gravatars, both follow buttons, etc etc.
Lovely weather here!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Naughty boy escaping the rellies

I love the idea of your business partner sneaking off to spend time with cats rather than people:rotfl:. A man after my own heart:T. As it was a definite commitment his guests wouldn't have been offended either. Everyone, feline or human, was a winner:j0

Surfacing to wave hello!
I too lurve cats - but we are not in the right type of lifestyle to give them the attention they would need...
Many years ago one of the framed piccys that came with from over the pond was of the two beauties we had many moons ago - in a almost not kitten stage snuggled up on the sofa together belly up begging for a tummy rub! Long haired rumbling furballs
(Back to the grind now - am working from home today to escape the dysfunction of the workplace!)4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! (24 OCT 2016)(With heartfelt thanks to those who have gone before us & their indubitable generosity.)...and now I have a mortgage! (23 AUG 2021)New projection - 14 YEARS 10 MONTHS LEFT OF 20 YEARS (reduced by 15 mths)Psst...I may have started a diary!0 -

(Back to the grind now - am working from home today to escape the dysfunction of the workplace!)Great that you're working at home, but bad to hear the reason. Am "grrrring" on your behalf ...
I popped into "town" first thing to do the banking etc, but once again forgot to look at my list - I love making lists, but I don't seem to like *using* them very much :rotfl:
I'm trying to have a "tidy everything and make the place look nice" day - its not going very wellbut at least the kitchen sink is clean now. Flylady would be pleased.

Crisis Number 1
Ants swarming all around one of the air bricks into the kitchen! Emergency measures were implemented
Crisis Number 2
Fell off the kerb:rotfl: walking home from town yesterday, sprained my ankle - luckily its okay today. Unlike my shoulder, which is killing me from chopping up the shrubs dangling over the patio
Luckily I'm off out today, to a wildlife centre, which should be amazing :j2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Raid!Raid!
Lovely Puddy tads BTW.0 -
Hurray, the emergency measures anti-ants (as Alchemilla says, Raid
) have been successful. Will be repeated, too
Wildlife place was brill - and at my sister's suggestion, I checked if I was eligible for senior citizen entry - and I was  only £10 instead of £11, but it meant the postcards I bought were free
We saw the otters being fed - wow! Fresh crabs. And lots of stoats and weasels and dormice (not in the same enclosure, obvs ... would definitely go again after retirement and take a picnic.
No wildcats visible - unsurprisingly. Took pic of empty enclosure for the blog :rotfl:
I need to stay home today to rest, and do a bit of cleaning as I start first thing tomorrow. Doing a bit on here too - relisting on Amazon, the stuff that hadn't sold before my Norfolk hol. If it hasn't sold by the time the flu season starts, it's going to the charity shop
Hope everyone has a great day, it looks lovely here2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Your day out sounds wonderful, KC, and well done on getting the entry discount:T. I try to keep quiet about my age but when needs must am willing to play the senior citizen card;).
I'm glad your ants have been dealt with:beer:. We've a wasps nest near our rows of runner beans:eek:. There are lots of wasps noisily flying about and as I'll be spending a fair amount of time down there harvesting, tidying and watering I'm keen to see the end of them. have been stung by wasps several times in my life and don't fancy that experience again:(. Any advice how to send them packing in the most humane/environmentally friendly way possible please? I try to avoid poisons because of all the other insect and small animal life, not to mention my lovely cat.0 -
Thanks CBC!
Oh dear, wasps, though ... I know there's an aerosolised wasp's nest kill thing, but no idea how to do it in an environmentally friendly way ... I hope I never have to try, but I'll be interested in any solution you find
I've also been decluttering a bit - nothing huge, just DVDs that I *know* I want to keep forever, taken out of their unnecessarily big cases into those little plastic envelopes, and the cases binned. They take up *so* much less space! Which leads on to the planning post thats coming up ...2023: the year I get to buy a car0
