Aww! Sorry about the wet and horrid, peeps :kisses3: it *looks* horrid here, but its quite mild (I don't have the heat on - tho I have a lot of layers :rotfl:) and it was spitting for about 10 minutes while I was in the garden, but that was that.
Garden success! More wild/non productive strawberry plants uprooted, a few more Japanese s*dding anemones gone so they won't hurt the quince, the sorrel or the mint, and fresh topsoil put down on the weeded areas. It looks nice! This is what was already a border when I moved here, but it hasn't been touched in the last 8 months or so  My back is telling me I've done enough, so I'm in now
ETA - I don't think my back can cope with the sealant as well as the garden :j:j:j sorry Gally :rotfl:2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Sounds like a very productive spot of gardening, KC. Listen to your body and have a good rest now after a job well-done:coffee:.
The miserable weather turned out pretty well for me as I used the time sorting through a couple of big boxes in the junk room (supposedly a spare bedroom but it's not been used as such for about 15 years....there isn't even a bed in there now). Have booked a pitch at the first local-ish outdoor car boot sale of the year on Monday morning. Forgot how freezing cold it can be at 6 a.m. this early in the year:eek:. Anyway, unearthed some more items to sell so I'm quite happy.
Also, and more interestingly, I unearthed 3 shoeboxes full of old postcards which I bought for a pittance at an auction one wintry day years ago and never got round to sorting and selling:o. They need to be researched, valued, scanned and listed individually on eBay:eek:. Guess how I'll be spending this evening and lots more evenings to come:rotfl:. They are such a wonderful source of social history (most of them from the very early years of the 20th century) and I know I'll get sidetracked into just reading the messages etc instead of doing any actual 'work' on them.0 -
Gosh, that sounds like a job and a half CBC!
Well done KC! :j Pretty mild here too - I had the heat on earlier for a couple of hours to dry out some clothes, but since then I've just been sat without it (er, with a hot water bottle admittedly :rotfl: )0 -
cbc~~I really feel for you & your situation.
It must be a big strain.

We've been wimps - heating is on:o...just to take the chill out of the air mind you! Dehumidifier is on as well as there is laundry drying in the bathroom. Good thing we are usually at work during the day - don't want to think of what the electric bill would be otherwise!:eek:4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! :hello::hello::hello:
I've been very luxurious with the heating, as I wanted a shower after gardening, and I hate being cold in that situation - I've rather overdone it, I'm afraid. So, I'm going to do the same with the hot water as I do when I've got something on the stove - I put an alarm on for 5 minutes ahead (or whatever, you get the principle ...). Its a bit ridiculous to over-heat by this amount. Luxury, yes - waste, no :rotfl:
I've also found out the British Museum Egyptian exhibition is now extended till July, which is very sensible of them - why not keep it running when so many people want to see it? Means I can see it out of flu season and out of school holiday seasonI *am* going to let go (in the American sense) my Egyptian Society subscription - I've only been twice in the last year, cos of illness, and when I'm not ill, it makes more sense to do stuff locally via sites like meetup :j
CBC, the postcards sound fascinating! Some of the family photos we've got from really far back are when they felt flush, and went to a photographer - the back was printed with a postcard form. There's a few websites where you can check out the fashion in the clothing, or see when particular buildings were built. I haven't used them personally (because when I was a child I talked to rellies that knew all the people in the photos), but I do know they're there. I don't envy you an early pitch at this time of year tho! But the very best of luck with *both* initiatives.
Must tell you guys: I was checking out a diary on the MMM forum, and there's a woman there who has a profitable little side business selling on Amazon - but its in "Fulfilled by Amazon", which I didn't know individuals could do. So I googled *our* Amazon, and this came up: http://services.amazon.co.uk/services/fulfilment-by-amazon/features-benefits.html It really seems to take the hassle out of selling on Amazon, I shall be investigating it further. CBC has reminded me of the £10 a day thread, and I don't have the energy to do it the way I used to do it, but this FBA thing might have a lot going for it. They even have an app2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I was interested to read that you are investigating 'Fulfilled by Amazon', KC. I keep seeing recommendations for it and have researched it a bit but decided not to go ahead with it myself with the books I sell on Amazon.. That's not a reflection on it's value, by the way, but I'm a bit of a control freak:o and like to keep the whole packing and posting process under my own control. Probably make more work for myself that way but it's just the way I am, unfortunately:(.
Lots of people do use it very successfully and I'd be very interested in hearing how you get on with it.0 -
I've just been reminded that I really must keep up with my surveys.
I'm only doing One Poll and You Gov these days, but since I've been back from my holiday I keep forgetting to look at them.
I'm on about £35 for One Poll, so only £5 more until I get a payout, then I'll stop. I'm on about £38 with You Gov, so still a way to go to the £50, but I don't mind You Gov as I don't get screened out with them.
Old postcards, I love them!
I used to buy them quite often, but I've sold almost all of them as part of my decluttering drive.
I love reading the messages on the back, they are like the text message of 100 years ago.
The general rule of thumb is that the cards of smaller towns, especially street scenes with people and traffic will do very well.
The less interesting ones, like the inside of churches aren't really worth listing separately - it's probably best to put them in bulk lots.
I used to really enjoy researching some of the more obscure cards - google earth was really helpful for the general shape of buildings to help to identify some of the scenes.
I really miss selling the cards.
Once I've finished all my de-cluttering and eBaying, I might reward myself with buying some random lots of cards. They don't take much space, they are interesting to look at and fun to sell the ones that I don't want to keep. They are almost the perfect ebay item. People want to buy them and they are so easy to pack!
Hmmm, that's made me even more determined to crack on with the decluttering!Early retired - 18th December 2014
If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough0 -
Thats very interesting, about Amazon and about the postcards - Goldie, that might be as steady for you as the jigsaws? CBC, there's nothing I'd like more than handing over control of the packing to someone else :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I'm a control freak in oh-so-many ways, but not that particular one
