OP, if you know the brand of the carpet, could you not contact the manufacturer and ask where it was stocked, as another shop may have a larger piece for sale ? Perhaps posting the details on here would result in someone knowing where there is some available.
Personally, I wouldn't want to do anything patchwise as edges are always a problem.
Will try and find out.Looking forward to the day I have nothing left to list on eBay0

Any joins will always be the weakest part of the carpet. I have just one small join on my landing and that's not brilliant tbh.
Joints can also be expensive to get done professionally.0

This is the perfect solution I was looking for, may be a lot of work for someone but perfect solution.:T:j:T
It can be the same carpet that I am getting for my stairs and will all match in perfectly - Thank you !!!!!:)
ps what is this "glue on edge" you speak of?
I know I should just get a carpet that fits, but there is nothing that would even touch this carpet, in my eyes anyway.
Morning - the carpet edging is this stuff:
 http://www.acecarpetedging.co.uk/shop/page/11?sessid=mqP9Tw0RUkAqw9604w9hEfGOtMBBe5hYWAGtYE6zXSwTrf4ksmeI4RJDH0v9ARDe&shop_param
Make sure you have plenty of glue sticks for your glue gun. The edging tape has a sticky backed fabric band that sticks to the underside of the carpet (like fabric gaffer tape - very good adhesion) and you run hot glue down the edge of the carpet as you push the braided edge to carpet edge. Do it slowly and make sure your carpet edge is reasonably straight before you start. Practice on an off cut first and be prepared for hot glue finger! Not difficult once you get going and the result is blinding.
 Good luck.0

I think the cost of faffing around doing the laminate, edging either side and against the carpet and the new carpet itself, you would be better off just buying another carpet that fitsGC Jan £431.490/£480.00  £48.51 under budget!0

Parquet flooring has depth to it, so you could put edged carpet in the middle without fear of fraying / slippage / tripping.
Edging with laminate is a different matter, as the depth issue remains a problem.0
