OWN phone - locked by Tmobile
Is it common practice for Tmobile to lock to their own network - phones that are the property of a private owner ?
My Samsung Note GT-N7000 was locked by Tmobile to Tmobile network !!
I own the phone - I paid my own money for it - therefore, surely - it belongs to me
Now, Tmobile want £20 to unlock it and tell me that it will take up to 2 months to get it unlocked
What are my options ?

was it purchased as a T-mobile phone then it was locked from purchase
they subsidise the price of the phone , compare prices of "sim free" phones to network locked

Are you saying you bought a sim free phone?
How did they lock it?0 -
You will be able to get it unlocked for cheaper than they offer. Even for free if you don't mind root.
As for can they do it, yes. Unless you've been under a rock you must know that locked phones are commonplace.0 -

Article 28(2) of this draft European directive will make it unlawful for networks to charge a SIM-unlocking fee after the customer has repaid the network's subsidy on the phone (which the customer will be able to do after 6 months if they choose).0

Thanks - but this is only a draft proposal - but it does say
"(57) With respect to terminal equipment, contracts should specify any restrictions imposed by the provider on the use of the equipment, for example by way of ‘SIM-locking’ mobile devices, and any charges due on termination of the contract prior to the agreed expiry date. No charges should be due after expiry of the agreed contract duration."
EE are not going to take this lightly - they will, no doubt try to add contract closing charges to ensure that they do not lose out......0
