Does anybody on here have water bills as confusing as those issued by South East Water.

In October I received a "budget account statement" in which they proposed that my monthly payment should be increased substantially. It based this on a period from 29th October 2013 to 29th October 2013. Unsurprisingly the balance on our account at the end of this period was the same as at the beginning. We phoned and agreed a small increase that we felt should cover any rises in charges during the next year. I also wrote to them
  • complaining that they always attempt increase the payments unreasonably,
  • informing them that their statement was meaningless, and
  • laying out the information that I would expect to see on the statement (with data from my own monthly meter readings)
  • stating that I would expect the statement to be based on meter readings and aligned with billing cycles.
Earlier this month, I received a bill from them showing
A previous balance as given on the budget account statement not the previous bill.
Metered charges from June 2013 to December 2013
Standing Charge from October 2013 to March 2014.
Payments made from October to December
A balance somehow derived from the above information.

I wrote again asking that their bills be altered to show:
  • The balance of the account at the previous billing date,
  • The payments made during the period from the previous bill to the current bill,
  • The charges for the period from the previous bill to the current bill,
  • The balance of the account at the current billing date, which should equate to the amount that would have to be paid if the account were terminated on that date.
I have received a reply that tells me all the information that is on my bill and incorrectly stating that I owe them the balance shown at the foot of the bill.

I have today received the bill from Southern Water which uses the meter reading from South East Water to calculate waste water charges but clearly shows
  • the balance from the previous bill
  • metered charges and standing charges for the same period
  • a balance at the billing date
  • monthly payments for the next six months correctly calculated from the charges incurred and balance on the account.
Am I asking too much for South East Water to follow this model?

Regards

Bushy

Bushy2, I cannot comment on South East water bills, but I have to agree with you that the Southern Water bills are easy to follow (even if they do make mistakes from time to time).
