I have been looking at prices, and the 1.9 TDi PD Octavias seem to be a bit cheaper then the Fabias with the same engine. It does seem a little strange, but if I had to choose then I would go for the Octavia.0

Thanks for your valuble inputs everyone. I am looking at this offer
http://www.skoda.co.uk/finance/finance-offers/fabia-offer/fabia-offer
ŠKODA Fabia Estate SE 1.2 TSI 86PS model for just £9,995 OTR.
I looked up on Cargiant, Skoda used cars etc, I cant seem to get a 3yr old car for less than 9k. I might as well stretch a it more and get a new car....There is more to life than increasing its speed.0 -
I have bought one of these too.
Thought it may be a little underpowered but this engine has a lot of low own torque. Very impressed overall. Boot is huge for its class (3 springer spaniels have not complained) but 3 people in the back seat need to be on very good terms!
Engine still tight at the moment but still averaging 47 MPG over 1500 miles of mixed driving.
Plus you get a real spare wheel too, 25% off list price, whats not to like?
New model due in September I believe. If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you! :dance:0 -
A quick look on Autotrader shows 3 year old Fabia estates from £6k, and Skoda main dealers selling them from £7k. But that deal does seem reasonable, provided you're happy with the exact engine and spec on offer. As above the price reduction will be due to the replacement model being released later this year.0

Someone locally here is selling a 2001 1.4mpi version. Any good?
I notice the tax is quite high on it though.0 -
I have the older model (in fact very old - 2002), so not sure how much use this will be to you, but I've been very happy with it.
It's obviously been looked after by previous owners, but it's still lasted exceptionally well for a 12 year/ 170000 mile car. I wouldn't hesitate to buy again.
Interior is a bit dull and lacks gadgets. Buy a higher spec model if you want fancy things.
It's a stretched hatch, rather than a full-on estate. The boot is indeed a good size, but nothing compared to a real estate. It suits me perfectly - usually just two of us with a load of luggage, but do check it's big enough for what you want.
No idea about the petrol model. On the 1.9 Tdi I get 59mpg without trying. About 52 if I drive like an @rse. 75 if I drive like a granny.0
