Hi all,
Does anyone here have a Skoda Fabia Estate? I'm after some feedback on
1. Do you like the car
2. Is it reliable etc for occasional long journeys?
3. How expensive is the service , parts etc?
Any other relevant info is gratefully received
Thank you!
Additional info : Im looking at Fabia estate petrol : ŠKODA Fabia Estate SE 1.2 TSI 86PS model - £9,995 OTR.

I've got a 2009 1.9 TDi which I quite like, its not an exciting car but its practical and cheap to run (55 mpg) and is fairly quick thanks to a 140 bhp remap. I expect I'll be keeping it until it dies.
If you are looking at a used one, I'd recommend the 1.9 TDi - decent performance and economy from a well proven engine and no DPF! If buying new, make sure you get a good discount as it will be replaced with a new model soon.0 -
I have a friend who has had a 2006 1.9TDi Fabia estate from new and has been very happy with it. Although I'm guessing from your other thread that you'd be considering the newer model which I can't comment on directly.
In terms of external appearance and interior quality Fabias don't score highly in my book but they are decent cars.
For your use I'd be more inclined to look at a petrol rather than diesel Fabia. (Not that I can see your partner being happy with the idea of one.)

3 - cheaper than a VW0 -
Skoda are the Lifeblood of taxis, Taxi drivers do not chose cars, they drive on necessity of no down time and no unscheduled repairs.
If you want to see what the most reliable car on the road is at any time, just visit any taxi rank.Be happy...;)0 -

As a Skoda driver I wish that were true but I think it's a stretch! Quite a few south east Asian car manufacturers would probably have a better claim to being the most reliable brand.
Taxi drivers are presumably concerned about buying cars with engines capable of very high mileages, which isn't the primary concern of most consumers (and definitely not of the OP).
You're obviously right there are shed loads of Octavia taxis about, although I'm not sure I've ever seen a Fabia estate taxi.0 -
A workmate had a 100 mile a day commute 4-5 days a week and swore by his diesel fabia estates.
Dont know the figures, but he got a new one every 2 years and I never heard him complain once about them.0 -
The missus had a fabia (not estate) from new in 2005 until the middle of last year (when some blind twonk wrote it off by ramming into the back of it at about 60). Since then she has been constantly nagging me to get her a new Fabia.
In the 7 1/2 years she had it, Apart from normal servicing it needed new front wheel bearings and had about 70k on the clock. It was the 1.4 turbo diesel and was fairly nippy but she always managed to get about 60mpg out of it.
So going by that If we were to replace her wrecked car then we would be buying another Fabia.0 -
Just avoid the SDi (non turbo!) engine. Painfully slow and no better economy than a turbo diesel.
We had a 1.4 Tdi Hatch and it was an excellent car - as tberry6686 says, never averaged below 60mpg and had plenty enough poke to get by. The 1.9 TDi's are also good.
Interiors may not look amazing, but they're comfortable and hard wearing.0 -
I've been in a Fabi Taxi and yes I did think it was too small. To be used as s taxi.0

I had a 2001 Fabia 1.9tdi estate for 10 years and still miss it a bit.
It coped with everything I threw at it. It was surprisingly quick and economical. No dpf means that short journeys didn't bother it.
I still keep an eye out for a late model 1.9tdi Scout. If I find one, I'd be tempted to switch back.0
