BT playing games?

I have discovered that my BT package is being offered for less than I am currently paying for it. I have now been transferred onto the cheaper deal and supplied with a new Hub, “worth over £100” (which incidentally I can’t install because it refuses to recognise my browser). I've also paid my line rental up front for a year, saving me even more money.

About a day or two after I was transferred, I noticed that the broadband light on my existing hub kept going orange and disconnecting, at random intervals.
I rang BT who said that they would test the line and if the fault was outside my home, it would be free to repair, but if inside the cost is £130.
Well guess what? They say the fault is inside my house.

Am I being cynical to suspect that something is going on, or is this just a huge coincidence? I just feel that they are trying to recoup their "loss".

So, you've a physical fault inside your house and you think that BT have somehow broken in and deliberately broken a cable?

As for your new hub, could I suggest you use a compatible browser - certainly Firefox, chrome, safari and Internet explorer work with the hubs, so one of them might be worth a try, or is there something you're not telling us?
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

No, I think they're making it up, which is quite obvious if you re-read my post.

My telephone travels down the same bunch of cables.

Home Hub 4 states that my browser is incompatible (IE11, Win 7). I then get stuck in a loop where it keeps directing me to the setup page. Firefox and Chrome do the same.

BT has confessed to there being a problem with some users.

What is the bit in bold supposed to mean?

Does the broadband flicker when someone is using the phone?
Which version of Firefox are you using?

But it's perfectly possible to have the voice side working with no broadband, and vice versa. It's a different signal.
If you test from the BT master socket's test socket (behind the split faceplate), it will be quite obvious where the fault lies. If the fault remains, it's down to BT. If it's OK, the fault is on your internal wiring or extensions.
BT are not responsible for the outside and you for the inside. They are responsible up to and including the NTE5 master socket. Downstream of that is all yours.
What socket is your router connected to? Have you swapped out the microfilters for known good ones?
This is a different problem to the browser issue.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I have now changed all the microfilters for new ones (supplied with the new hub) and I suppose it's now a waiting game to see if this has cured it.

Latest version, downloaded a few days ago.

I have managed to make the broadband flicker when blowing down the phone (to create some noise), but it has also done this when nobody has used the phone.

I've now replaced the filters for new ones and performed the same trick and it is holding steady. I can't say for certain if the new filters have cured it, but I suppose I will know if in a few days time
