I agree 100%, but for the vast majority, there just isn't the work out there.

Another 11,000 are already on government schemes "working" for their benefit.

    It's £56.00 for under 25s and £71 for over 25s.

Then you can get shared room LHA. Depends on where you live but between £36 and £48 per week to pay for accommodation.

    That's it.

And presumably you can still work up to 16 hrs per week?

You can if you want, but every penny you make over £5 gets taken off your job seekers allowance.

I used to work with some who will not do one minute over the 16 hours per week for fear of losing their benefit, why was this?

Tax credits maybe but they certainly weren't under 25, single and claiming job seekers.

Worth noting the UK government spends 4 billion on job seekers every year and a staggering 40 billion on tax credits.

    That'll be it then.

If you have two children and pay child care, working at least 16 hours a week. Tax credits could be £15,000 a year plus.

It's about £6000 if you work less than 16 but you'll still get child benefit, potentially rates and housing benefit.

Definitl no poverty there but you can see how someone young on £56 - £71 per week could be defined as in "poverty".

How do people who can't speak English get work then?

I suspect a certain lack of self discipline in some cases. And alarm clocks.

Moypark are always looking for people.

True, met a guy on Sunday who'd come here from Spain two months ago to try to get work. Very limited english but he said he'd been working in Moy Park.
