Does the TV work ok when connected to one of the other aerial sockets, if so then it's something wrong with the wiring from your amp to the TV (or to the amp). I'm assuming that the other TVs work via the same amp.
Make sure the plugs are properly terminated and that there aren't any "whiskers" from the cable screen shorting the centre conductor. failing that, get the bloke who did it back

Surely you didn't pay him without establishing that the install was working OK?

Well, I'm no apologist for aerial erectors, but depending on the price paid it is not their job to tune-in TV's or Freeview boxes - indeed, unless you left out the relevant remotes and installation manuals, he'd probably find it hit and miss.

He will have brought with him a portable DVB meter which would be used to ensure the correct multiplexes were received (it shows on the display) and a final check with the co-axial plug as a final test tag proves the installation works.

Any issue of getting a picture via a STB or TV is not of his concern and unless he feels generous with his time, it's off to the next job. Indeed I've heard of some customers claiming he shouldn't be paid if their TV screen doesn't see a picture!
  • The tuner in your freeview box might have given up the ghost. Test it out on another telly.
