I think 'download' is a wrong word here. They are capable of downloading and sending emails (without using a browser).

StormyWeather - As far as I know most phones (though not all phones) that do email will also do internet and vice versa , and you should be able to use your present email address.
Most phones have the ability to set up your email on the phone quite easily, in fact I just set up a gmail account on an old Nokia 2720fold.
Bear in mind that there can be security issues if the phone has no anti-virus software to protect your email account while online.
