Isle of Man TT races
I'd like to go, never been before.
Do you have to pay for the "main arena" so to speak? How much? I saw on the dvd film that there are 'stands' for sitting are any of the stands free? or are they all payable? How much?
Obviously you can stand anywhere -outside the central bit- along the course for free, but I imagine the road is closed to traffic, so.... do you have to walk to get out along the course somewhere.
I was also wondering.. Guy Martin crashed in 2010 into a fireball and this was on Balycleary(sp?) corner so there must have been spectators caught in that fireball, did any spectators get hurt?
I am also wondering when a crash happens into someones property house/spectator etc who pays for the damages?
Are there campsites for tents or can you pitch up anywhere in the coutryside and no-one will bother you?

I'm pretty sure if you put in a small amount of effort (I'm not doing it for you, you've posted enough times on here to make me think you should know how to use a search engine) you'll be able to find the official TT website, which has information about grandstands and a forum on which I expect any questions you have will either have already been asked or you can post yourself and will be answered by enthusiasts.0
-
Yeah I did search and found a grandstand ticket is £5 pretty cheap but not sure if it is only the main grandstand that costs or if there are other (free) stands around the course. and what the whole overall charge arrangements are for the whole event.
There will be other forums with lots of members able to help but *this* is my forum and I am asking here (first) because I am already registered here. First hand knowledge is what I am looking for, someone from MSE who has already been and knows what the score is and can advise on a few tips.0 -

Shouldn't be a concern of yours.0 -
Public liability insurance.
You big issue wig is getting there and getting accommodation. The Steam Packet company has a ferry monopoly and prices are through the roof, even then they are hard to get.
A lot of the B&B's will suddenly cost double what they would in other weeks too. You'll still need to book very far in advance though. A lot of regulars will book for the following year while they are there.
However, worth a trip on its own. If only to ride over the mountain. Long weekend covers it. You can go round the island in half a day! What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
been there many times but never in TT week only in the week before and week before GP as well.
If you can go and stand on the balcony at creg-ny-baa pub and watch them coming down the hill!
Be aware when racing/practicing the railway to the mountain stops and other roads are closed.
The best part is the Sound watching for whales or going over to the Calf of Man if calm enough.0 -
Spectators can get hurt http://news.sky.com/story/1100787/isle-of-man-tt-race-crash-10-spectators-hurt but its motorsport and inherently its a dangerous activity especially on a road circuit.
But for me, I am so glad its still going thankfully the Iom govt are very pragmatic and so are the people who attend.
I have been 15 times to the TT and the only injuries suffered have been related to excessive beer well apart from the day the Steam packet ferry has a gearbox issue and went into the harbour wall and I bruised a finger.0 -
There are no charges outside the main grandstand. Search online for a good spot to stand and get there early. Ballaugh is popular and as with most areas in towns around the course, the locals set up areas for refreshments.
If you go on a bike, watch out for suicidal Germans on the wrong side of the road (although that hasn't happened for a few years now)0 -
Westwood may not be aware of them but there are small charges for a few of the many other well known spectator points:
Braddan Bridge has a small grandstand and there is a very small charge to enter the church grounds.
Ballacrye fanzone also has a grandstand/viewing area that has a charge.
Creg ny Baa and Hillberry also charge.
Loads of pubs and hotels along the way put out extra seating and make their car-parks available - it would be bad manners not to buy something (beer & sandwiches at least) from them if you make use of their car-park or toilets.
Enjoy your trip - don't forget to have some Bushy Beer - great labels on the bottles.

Yes you're right, I was no aware of the charges. But as you mentioned the charges are very small so I suppose it's not really worth worrying about.0

I'm going again this year

On the Steam Packet you'll struggle to get ferry tickets at the moment for the beginning of race week, returning at the end of it but you should be OK mid week.
It'll be about £100 rtn as a foot passenger, motorbike and rider is £236
Lots of people have just paid their deposits and need to cough up the rest by the end of Feb so expect some more availability then.
There's another company that says it'll have a ferry running for the TT but I wouldn't bet on it.
