roku channel recommendations

I have just installed a roku box :) There seem to be loads of channels available, are any of them any good? Has anyone any recommendations? Also does anyone know of any decent childrens channels on there?

Thanks

  • I use my Roku mainly for streaming stuff from my Plex server.

Kids wise we use hooplakidz for our two girls under 3.

Thanks I set up Plex (first thing I did) unfortunately it doesn't work on mine :( googling the problem I think it might be either my wireless broadband isn't good enough :( or maybe pc not powerful enough. It starts to play then after every few minutes keeps 'retrieving' for ages so it impossible to watch anything.

My WiFi works fine with my 'box'.

Hard wiring with Ethernet cable from your router will get the best bandwidth.

I have a very low powered dual 1.5Ghz celeron as my server, it doesn't run a gui like Windows (I use ubuntu server) but plays 1080p video perfectly fine over wireless.

What spec machine are you using and what speed is your internal wifi network?

Sorry I am not technical so not 100% sure what you are asking :o

    my PC is intel(R) core (TM) 2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz

when I do a speed test on my PC it tells me it is 5.9mb
  • That sounds more like your internet speed rather than your internal network speed. If you look on your router, does it say 54Mbps or something else?

The server is just below what they recommend for 1080p, what operating system does it run and what sort of video resolution are you playing? have you tried changing your Roku to use direct play?

its 54Mpbs (whilst googling to find that out I noticed there is a firmware update for it available that might help)

    I am running Vista

I have tried changing the resolution but that doesn't make any difference. I will try direct play I haven't done that, thanks
