Wierd calling out problem

I have been using my ovivo payg sim for years on my htc phone without any trouble but since yesterday it has been failing to call out properly. When I call another number the other phone does not ring. It will get a missed call message but the call is dropped by my phone before it starts ringing. I can receive calls fine but I am unable to ring anyone despite having most of my allowance and some credit on the phone. I called ovivo (from another mobile) and they are stumped too.
Has anyone got a clue how to sort this out?

To locate the problem try using the sim with another phone.

I think, most likely it's your phone's fault, but you possibly already know this.

Yes I have just tried it in a different phone and it works so the problem most likely lies with the original phone itself. I wonder what kind of fault would cause the call to register as missed but also cut out before getting to the ringing stage.

Is this happening when you call a specific number - or is it all numbers?

Thor - It could be the phone or it may just be that the sim had some dirt on it in the original phone - this has been known to happen. Give the sim a rub with a clean tissue and try it again in the first phone, if there is still no luck with it then it is certainly a phone fault.

It happens with all numbers and once I determined the problem has to lie with the phone I did clean the sim and the sim contact point in the phone but it made no difference. Recently I have discovered that it does work for a while every now and but only for minutes and I have no idea what the trigger is to get it to that point.
