i cant speak for others but there will always be people for and people against all inclusive,
it works for us as not only a couple but my sons also now like to go all inclusive. we like to be out and about during the day but enjoy staying in the hotel, watching entetainment and having drinks on a night .
there are lots of good all inclusive hotels, the riu chain of hotels usually offer good food, snacks, entertainment day and night . apart from once in gran canaria (we went to the riu waikiki) we usually go to at least 4* all inclusive, you usually get what you pay for.
good luck in finding the right holiday0 -
I like Ai in Turkey .My favourite so far ( I have been to a few)
http://www.susesihotel.com/en/index in Belek .
But you won't get this hotel for your budget in a school hols.
But you could look at Lara Beach
You have read a lot of negative remarks about Ai , so why is the concept of Ai the fastest growing section??
But I must stress you CAN'T do Ai on a budget.0 -

Thanks pompeypete, you transported me to my favourite lunch spot. What a tonic on a cold, wet, grim day.
I love this place but I'm just as happy having meze with the locals in their equivalent of a trasnsport caff!:)
Spent so many holidays in Kalkan, at the Samira, not the mahal
So many fantastic restaurants to choose from but like you have enjoyed many a fantastic meal at the lokantas for mere pennies0 -

In Greece & Turkey, we eat out every lunch & dinner and enjoy a discussion about where we're going to eat next.
I dislike buffets - which AI (unless you pay a fortune) tends to be because I don't like to think that someone's stuck a mucky finger in the food that I might choose. But that's just me.
We've done AI 3 times - once in Sri Lanka in 1996 (we thought the food was wonderful as a lot of it was local, some guests hated it). but the hotel really e=was in the middle of nowhere and we didn't like the isolation.
Cuba in 1997 - our worst holiday ever. The food was bland and always the same.
Mexico in 2006. We'd got a good AI deal and as we'd been before on RO basis and spent every night downtown eating in some wonderful local places, we though we'd have a few drinks in the hotel then go downtown to eat. But the hurricane (Gilbert?) the year before had wiped out all those lovely restaurants.moneysavvy35 wrote: »I really want to try AI just because I believe it will be cheaper in general for my paticular family.
I can see how that would work for you.
Good luck with your choice.0 -
Hi moneysavver. I'm not against Ai . Infact we not long back from a really great all inclusive family holiday, eleven of us in Mallorca. But the reason we went A I was purely because of the poor exchange rate against the euro, it was my treat for the family and I had a budget of £300 pp.
As it was the oct school holidays I have the family the choice of Europe would have to be A I or turkey on a S C basis. The reason for this is that the rest of the family members sons with girlfriends and my eldest son his girlfriend a 2 young children. Would I know find it a real struggle to pay for meals and drinks out in Europe. But with the exchange rate and low prices in turkey this wouldn't of been such an issue. As it worked out the costs of getting to turkey made the budget impractical and after looking for a few weeks I managed to find a brilliant under budget holiday A I to cala d'or in Mallorca and it was great,0 -

Wow! Can you share resort? Please?“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
It's only marmarris flying from Birmingham on the 2nd may. Booked through quidco 11% cash back. Never been to marmarris before, but we tend to hire a car an explore a bit. But as long as it's sunny and I'm getting 3.50 tl to the pound what can go wronge? Lol0

Excellent deal. The transfer from Dalaman is 90 minutes each way, longer if the coach has several stops before yours.
If it's not too hot have a walk along the coastal path from Marmaris to Icmeler - great views along the way. Plenty of places to stop for a drink. Icmeler's a really nice place, with a busy Wednesday (?) Market. Get the frequent dolmus (orange) back to Marmaris, or even better take the water taxi from Icmeler to the Marmaris marina. Stunning views on the boat, takes 45 minutes, and costs 10 Lira.
Another good trip out by Dolmus (white) from Marmaris is to Turunc. It passes by Icmeler and then up and up into the pine forests. You'll feel like the man in the moon at the top, but it's a lovely drive with stunning views, and Turunc is pretty, low-key resort.
The orange (frequent) and white (hourly) dolmus run all the way along the hotel strip in Marmaris. If you want to go to the Otogar (main bus station) to venture a bit further afield then you need the green dolmus to get to the Otogar
Towards the Marina from the Ataturk statue on the prom there's a permanent covered indoor market on the left. It's not that exiting, but behind the market re a few decent inexpensive places to eat. Bar street is behind the marina.0
