Orange "free" tablet

A friend of mine was sent a 'free' Nexus tablet from Orange recently, and didn't know what to do with it, so he missed that it was bundled with a MyFi device and SIM card, which has locked him into a 2-year contract at over £22 a month!! When he did call them, they said it was too late to cancel! I haven't seen the original documentataion, so I don't know if it made clear the cost and time limit to cancel/return it, but people should be aware of this and warn anyone who might get caught out..

I'm sure I'm not the only person confused by this. Networks do not send these out unsolicited - so he would have to have gone into a shop chose the MiFi device and accepted the free gift offer (in actuality, an 'inducement') and started a 24 month contract.
If he didn't need or want one, why go to the network? If he didn't need a MiFi unit, why did he accept the offer?0 -
There is no 'free' tablet (maybe I need to update my sig?)
Sorry, but how did your friend think that the 'gift' was not without strings-i.e. a contract? No free lunch, and no free laptop
